What's the oldest item of clothing/footwear you still wear?

  • Hard to say, since I still have a lot of clothing bought second hand or vintage as a teen (a lot of it 'just' second hand!)--that was about 25 years ago and some of it was probably 10ish years old then, although I do have a few of my grandmother's dresses from when she was a teen in the late 50s. I don't really wear those, apart from the odd occasion but I supposed they'd be the oldest.

A jumper bought in 1993. It's laddered from the armholes down so not suitable for anything but wearing in the house but it's the warmest clothing I own and I've never managed to find anything that matches it for that, which is why I keep it. I expect it to get a lot of usage this coming winter.
  • Lightweight summer jacket by Rohan purchased about 1977. Several other items made by Rohan from late 1970's. Quality items made to last. I have some older items but I am waiting for them to grow in the wardrobe or me to shrink :)

I have a black tee shirt with a gorgeous cat on it.  I bought it nearly 40 years ago.

Less sentimental than some of the lovely examples above, but I have a few pairs of socks that have been knocking around for over a decade despite being holey and de-elasticated. This week I sorted through them all and saved a load of them to use as cleaning rags.

I'm terrible at getting rid of things but I'm working on it.

    Hi

My kids and MrsDiy keep o telling me to get more cothes but I feel comfoy in older clothig especially at home

The oldest is a a T-shirt non cottom, actually three and they dont loose colour and they are about 23/25 years old and still wear one of threm in the evening the other two on and off.
Shoes possibly 20 years old as rearely wear suit shoes.

A hoodie 12 years old and a coat from one of our kids as it was too big on them form about 25 years ago a wool coat that is warm. M&S threequarter quality jacket worn about 20 times over 20 years

I often don't wear clothing the same year I buy it unless they are my cotton t-shirts which are comfy but and wear two a day as I like to stay very clean and fresh

I made myself a sleeveless white cotton lawn blouse/top when I was 18.
I’m nearly 65 now and it still comes out and gets worn every summer, even the buttons are original!

Discounting items bought as vintage, I have the t-shirt my OH bought me for Xmas when we started going out in 1987, so 35-36 years old (and it still fits) - the t-shirt with Pete Murphy's face which I bought in 1984 died/was lost/got eaten by goblins sometime in the last couple of years which was my previous holder of the 'oldest t-shirt' award.

I got given my mum's green denim jacket which she bought in 1976-ish so that's the oldest thing I have that I still wear. So, 47 years old

I've got a sheepskin jacket I bought with my first pay in my very first job. I got £93.08 for a month's work in 1992, and spent £90 on this jacket I'd always wanted. Hasn't had a huge amount of wear, I did wear it for 3 hours whilst volunteering outside a couple of weeks ago.

The other old thing I still have is a T shirt bought in Australia in 1994.

My son is now the owner and wearer of the fifty year old khaki jacket that was bought for me by my parents in 1973. Waste not, want not!
