    As Mojisola suggests.

Even use dirty dish water, warm and soapy, so faster acting, and no waste. Tear the sheets up roughly, and chuck them in randomly to mix up the sheet contents. Leave for as long as you like, and give it the odd stir. Finally pull t'plug, drain, and squeeze the stuff into lumps.

I'm usually pretty relaxed/careless about stuff like this, but when having a largish clear-out of lots of different docs a while back, thought I should make some effort, so that is what I plumbed for.

Take the lumps outside, stand on them, and chuck them straight in the paper recycling. The chances of anyone successfully getting useful info out of that mess must be infinitesimally remote.

And, boy, what a waste of time it would be.

I'm not sure the recyclers will be happy with the result.  Ours can't take shredded paper because the short fibres reduce the quality of the end product and papier mache might have the same problem - check first locally.

Buy a miniature brazier, and burn them in that

You can buy hand cranked shredders ideal for small volumes. Muji do one, and Amazon have some like this one.

I’m never quite sure what to do with shredded paper. The stuff goes everywhere.
Burn bin looks a good idea.

I resorted to using scissors accepting that I won't be able to do much with my right hand for the next couple of days.

Thanks all for the suggestions - I shall try to remember them in another 2 years when I do this again.

Any reason why you are reluctant to switch to paperless billing to avoid having to do it all again in a couple of years ?
You obviously have acess to the internet so why not switch to paperless billing, downlaod the bills and store them on a thumb drive for backup...
