What is a typical household?
Apparently, "for a typical household - one that uses 12,000 kWh of gas a year, and 2,900 kWh of electricity a year - it means an annual bill will not rise above £2,500 from October.".
We live in a fairly modern 3 bedroom well-insulated house and only two of us. Our temperature is set to 18C in winter and our usage is 26,183 kWh for gas and 5877 kWh electricity thus our bills will be over £5k per year. Can someone tell me what a typical household is, I imagine if you have several children usage is likely to be quite high?

I should add that my 92 year old mum lives on her own in a 2 bedroom semi in London and uses 18,910 kWh for gas and 2030 kWh electricity...1

I live alone in a 1980s 4-bed detached. My usage is less than the quoted typical household for both gas (10200) and electricity (2300).
Your usage is way more than I would expect.4 -
We live in the North West (Peak District), cold winters. Where are you based?Deleted_User said:I live alone in a 1980s 4-bed detached. My usage is less than the quoted typical household for both gas (10200) and electricity (2300).

If your burning 26,183 KWH of gas a year to heat to 18C you really want to revisit your well-insulated assertion.RSTime said:

It is an assumption. How do we get advice on insulation? Also, do we ned to get our meters checked?1

Has there ever been an EPC done for your house? https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificateRSTime said:It is an assumption. How do we get advice on insulation? Also, do we ned to get our meters checked?
That's a decent place to start.2 -
Despite your location - you should look at your gas and electric consumption. Keeping your house warm may explain the gas but not the electric.RSTime said:Apparently, "for a typical household - one that uses 12,000 kWh of gas a year, and 2,900 kWh of electricity a year - it means an annual bill will not rise above £2,500 from October.".

Lots of typical questions - electric showers, underfloor heating, big American freezers, pond pumps, fish tanks,Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
We are all electric, 4 adults in a 3-bedroom semi-detached, heating set to 18℃ (with the occasional boost for half an hour in the depths of winter) and that's more than half of our annual electric usage. We are in the middle of England, but still!RSTime said:Apparently, "for a typical household - one that uses 12,000 kWh of gas a year, and 2,900 kWh of electricity a year - it means an annual bill will not rise above £2,500 from October.".
