if I have paid straight away
If you paid with a reversible payment method then you have not truly "paid" until the payment is no longer subject to a chargeback (up to around 6 months later).
and you haven't had me contact you being a pain, disputing item etc
That would have to be the case for the entire chargeback period of around 6 months.
then I have fulfilled all my obligations
You haven't, because you can still choose to submit a chargeback in the following 6 months after "paying".
    and you should leave feedback.
Why? If you have paid with a reversible payment method then you have not truly paid until the chargeback period has expired. Why "should" a seller leave positive feedback when you can submit a chargeback months after that?
I wont leave a seller feedback is they are too lazy to do it for me (not that anyone really reads it)
It's not always laziness. A seller is more likely to leave feedback once they know that the buyer has received and is happy with the item, but despite what their feedback comment states, a seller has no idea whether the buyer is "good" or "legit" because they can still file a chargeback in the following 6 months.

I find getting any feedback at all is more of a issue as 2/3rd,s of sales dont bother to leave any .
Sometimes they reply to my contact message I send stating the time and date that the parcel was sent via royal mail  but feedback is only 1 in 3 sales .

Feedback is pretty immaterial really once you have a fair few ratings- and there really isn’t any need at all to email buyers to tell them their parcel has arrived, it can be a cause of annoyance .
    Really?
I always message buyers to let them know timis d I posted their item.
I get 'thanks for letting me know'.

I think there's a difference between telling them it was sent and telling them it has arrived. Why would a seller tell me my item had arrived unless they thought I was going to do something dodgy, surely I know if something has arrived.

But TOPCAT didn't say he/she messaged when the parcel was delivered.
They said when the parcel was sent.
That's what confused me about your post.
Mostly, I have no idea when my parcel is delivered.
But I do have proof of posting.

    No problems.
I was just surprised that a big eBay seller thought what I considered politeness might annoy buyers.
    Glad that's cleared up. 👍

I've just received my first neutral since joining in 2004. I also feel rather hurt as the parcel being delayed was beyond my control. It was bought on Monday for a birthday on Saturday and when it didn't arrive she was disappointed and no longer wanted it so I redirected it back to me via the courier. Silly me, I thought I was saving her the trouble of returning it to me. I even refunded as soon as I knew from tracking it was on its way back, before I received it.

I was going to leave a reply to her feedback but after reading this I think I'll leave it.

Anyway, Karma prevailed. It was something from a collection and I want to get rid of them ASAP so as a gesture I had put extra in the parcel to make the weight up to 2Kg. I'm very pleased I had them all returned. She is blocked so can't buy others

  • People take note of feedback?
    Unless it's stupidly low, I don't care.

I certainly take note of feedback, and try to look beyond the numbers. And in many cases I think the reply speaks louder than the actual feedback.
Whenever I check out the feedback on an item, like many folk I start with the negatives! I instantly dismiss comments made clearly unreasonable folk, tho', and it's usually not difficult to see who they are.
What do I want to see? The facts
JWM, I would post an honest reply. From what you say, it would probably be something like, "Really sorry - I acknowledge that the photo quality wasn't as good as I usually manage, and the colour might not have fully accurately represented the item sold. I will ensure that this doesn't happen again. A full refund was, of course, offered, but the buyer chose to keep the item, and not consider a feedback revision."
The bit in bold is optional. The rest is a simple statement of fact.
If I were to read the feedback comment and the reply, I know which person I'd consider to be the 'ole.
