Green Energy fixed tariff - what happens next?

A short while ago I signed up for a fixed tariff with Green Energy UK. At the time the government and both leadership candidates were adamant that they would not freeze the price cap, so I calculated the "least worst" option of signing up for a 1 year fix that would be more expensive than the Summer price cap, but cheaper than the Oct-Dec and Jan-Mar price caps.
If the government now decide to freeze the price cap (a policy that I would totally support by the way, and one that should have been announced MONTHS ago) will I be able to switch supplier?
There are no exit fees with Green Energy, but they do not offer SVT.
Anyone else in the same boat?

If you can find one that will take you, yes. & my guess is that if the government is backing the suppliers such that they can make a profit on SVT more of them will.
I would mention 2 caveats though:
1) we don't yet know how long the freeze will be or at what level
2) some of the other suppliers have terrible customer service
& yes, I am in the same boat & I am also sure that many others on here are too.1 -
Suggest you have a look on this topic.

I plan to switch it to EDF unless GEUK offer a comparable SVT.

I'm with EDF for gas and when I looked at Change Tariff on my account it allows me to request both electric and gas if I switch to their SVT.What_time_is_it said:
I don't know about new customers though.0 -
Part of the reason that I took the GEUK fix was to get away from EDF ...

Unlike many on here, since moving over to them from Zog, I have never had a problem with EDF.BUFF said:Part of the reason that I took the GEUK fix was to get away from EDF ...
Yes their systems are archaic, and you only receive a statement every six months, but as long as you keep your own records, send in monthly meter readings and adjust you direct debit when tariffs change I find them no better or worse than any of the others I've used.0 -
They are imo worse than all the others that I have been with. What's odd is that they are worse now than they were many years ago (when I was with them before) ...0

I suppose that just goes to show that we all have different experiences ...BUFF said:They are imo worse than all the others that I have been with. What's odd is that they are worse now than they were many years ago (when I was with them before) ...0 -
I noticed recently someone else commenting similarly re. EDF cs/invoicing & statements being worse now than they were years ago.
Like you I was SOLRed from Zog to EDF, I was similarly SOLRed from Neon Reef to BG - of the 2, BG were better (although still not good) imo.0
