  • Sorry people, I do feel a bit emotional about the situation.
I do think a lot of you would think differently if it had happened to them.

It's like when your best friend gets cheated on by their wife/husband, you give him all kinds of advice.
But a week later, it is you who has been cheated on...

Absolutely nothing the matter with the letter/email you wrote.  Completely clear what had happened.

    I disagree with this.
Complaints should be brief, concise, to the point.
If you wanted them to do something (what?) about your broken phone you should have been more clear.

No, it's nothing like that. You dropped your phone, no one else to blame.

That's a very strange comment. It doesn't appear to have anything to do with your visit to Waitrose.

TBH, if I'd been shopping and it had happened to me, I'd be furious.
    With me.

I do feel Waitrose has responsibility for my cracked screen
You are incorrect, they are not responsible for your cracked screen. You are responsible for it, because you dropped your phone.
  • Yes, I am the one who dropped the phone, but that was because of the whole situation I described.

You cannot blame anyone else unless they actually knocked it out of your hand.

You do not have any claim against the store, take the offered goodwill gesture and move on.

Waitrose aren't going to pay for a new screen. It's annoying when the self service machines don't work properly but tills do break down. You were carrying the phone and you dropped it. You could have put it in a pocket or a bag before you moved tills.
    Come on you Irons

Doesn't matter. They're not liable for you not being able to juggle your possessions at the till.

Waitrose not commenting on your being cack handed seems fair enough - No reason for them to change the system when it works better for them/the majority of customers they want to attract
Does it work better or are we just all sheep that are going along with it??  I really don't want all the different store apps on my phone.  It will slow down other things working as the memory gets more and more clogged up.  And Waitrose did use to have a load of offers and now there are very few and poorly advertised at that.
From the business point of view it works better - I believe it was tested before it was rolled out nationwide - it certainly costs them less to run than the old system
