Now I'm curious about who 'the usual suspects' are . . .
But I don't tell anybody my financial details and I don't want to know anybody else's either.
If anyone did tell me I would try not to be jealous or judgemental. I'd still rather be me! I do have a friend who told me a few years ago that he had 'more money than I know what to do with, to be honest'. He wasn't even boasting - he's a lovely guy with a wife, children and grandchildren who was embarrassed about the pensions he'd accumulated on retirement. But that's only because he's lived, worked and stayed in one place all his life. I have other friends who are in the same situation - another one said she'd happily return the winter fuel payment we pensioners receive each year because she doesn't want or need it. She's a generous contributor to charity instead.

Whereas I, who travelled the world and didn't accumulate pensions but had some great adventures, wouldn't swap places with any of them. I also had the partner and family but no accumulated pensions. I'm financially very comfortable, run a car and am not struggling, now. (I have in the past though, hence my presence on this forum).
Life is what you make it and it's nobody else's concern. Or it shouldn't be.
Um, what was the question? I would love to earn that too but unfortunately I don’t earn anywhere near that either and never likely tooBrie said:
I would love to have a "35k modest salary"!! If I made that much I might not object to paying for overpriced beer and wine. As it is being charged £8.50 for a glass of wine makes me squeak out loud!Rich1976 said:Is 35k a modest salary?
I don’t object to paying £5.50 for a pint of beer or £8.50 for a glass of wine as it’s not a regular thing. I’ll pay 3.50 for a coffee more frequently but then I ensure I save quite a bit each month and our bills are low.1

He will leave a freezer door open longer then I would, leave a iron switch on when he’s on the toilet, fill up a kettle for one cup of tea.
Good Heavens!! What kind of crazed hedonist are we dealing with??13

Filling the kettle up is a bad one. My daughter and boyfriend live with me, they fill the kettle up and boil it, then leave it for ages, then come down stairs and boil it again and make their tea.fourmarks said:He will leave a freezer door open longer then I would, leave a iron switch on when he’s on the toilet, fill up a kettle for one cup of tea.

So what should cost around 2p, probably costs 6p+
If everything cost them treble, they would need to earn treble my wage, just to have the same lifestyle.2

Everyone does not want the same thing, and one size does not work for all.
Some are savers, some are spenders.
Some are ambitious, some are ok with average.
Not everyone is driven by money and success.
some are interested in business and investments, some are not.
I like living a balanced life.
Everyone should do what works for them.5

Ah but if they spent £20 on a newer more energy efficient kettle its all good
With energy bills going up I have found myself unplugging laptop chargers and even my gaming PCs power supply overnight as motherboard RGB lights operate even when PC is off. Compared to many on here I am not that savvy with investments, pensions etc but compared to the majority of friends and family I seem to understand a lot more so its swings and roundabouts.0

I must have some form of Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) because as I’m annoying to some people on here I could be a bit annoying to my dear parents – when I was a wee lad, both parents would come home from a hard days labour (manual workers) have dinner and like clockwork both would fall asleep with tv still on, I saw this as a waste of electricity and would turn the tv off, which would prompt them to wake up and switch the tv back on again – this would happen a couple of times during the evening, eventually I would give up until the next night.... I would go around the house making sure the taps weren’t dripping. If my family was going away on holiday I would go round making sure all the plug sockets were switched off. I bet Greta Thunberg would love to come to a party of mine.. Ok, the weekend is over, enough of this idle chit-chat and back to discussinghow to make our money work hard for us all.
