I think I am right in saying electric blankets don't cost a massive ammount to run. Has anyone tried / used an electric throw / fleece or jacket whilst sat at home watching the world go round..... Have seen plenty advertised. I'm tempted to buy one.

I bought a heated throw which is supposed to be cheap to run ready for the energy price rises & tested it & was very cosy on low & was snug even when off.

dad in law loved his electric waistcoat. was given it as an early christmas gift from OH. think it was about £50 from amazon.

He wore it most days last winter and charged it every night. was actually talking to OH earlier today that we need to get him a replacement (maybe better one) this year as he burnt his first one out using it so much.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

The electric throws that Aldi were selling early in the year are very good. We got one and it does keep you nice and warm even in a cold room.
At full power the one we have is rated at 160 watts.
So if used for an hour at full power it will use 0.16kWh.
If the October standard variable tariff for electricity is say £0.52 per kWh, this means it will cost just over 8 pence an hour to run.
Hopefully I've got my maths right!!!

Typically seem to be rated at about 150W, so would cost about 8p per hour on maximum heat from 1/10, if on SVT.

i love mine! would highly recommend much cheaper than the CH. mines rated 150W but there is no way it uses that much, it clearly cycles and only uses 150W energy when its heating and then a much lower wattage to maintain the heat.

Yes, but that cools you down, rather than warming you up...

  • I got a heated throw Xmas Eve 2021 and not looked back since.  I was able to reduce the CH thermostat down to 18C using the heated throw to heat the me and my wife particularly in the evening after eating.  Felt warmer than having the CH at 20-21C (without the throw).  Looking to see how Autumn's usage pans out with this different means of feeling cosy :)

Professional cyclists produce a fairly constant 400w and can produce 900w plus in a sprint.
