we always have 2 tvs on standby, router, ring doorbell and floodlight cam, fridge freezer and a separate small fridge, cooker/dishwasher/washing machine on standby.Hopefully some people can find some gremlins sucking power and save a bit more energy and money.1 -

Heating to 180oC running for 30 mins 1.1-1.2kwh running for one hour 2kwh. It's not drawing massive amounts of power due to the fan assistants and heat staying in the oven.
To burn 2-3.5kwh in 30 mins you would have to leave the door open!4 -
Or base load is between 4.46 and 4.72. We were away for 8 nights and and fluctuated between these figure's per day. 2 x fridge freezers, couple of outside lights on pir's, nest on, router on, alarm system. Dishwasher, range cooker etc Washington machine on standby, all other devices switched off off at the wall. No gas, so apart from hot water and heating (oil fired) all other appliances on electric, house is 5200 kwh per year with eV charging about 5000 kwh per year1

Does anyone completely shut down their Electiric/ Gas and Water and defrost the fridge Freezer when away. Perfectly possible.1

However the auto lights wouldn't come on to look like someone was home, the alarm wouldn't be on, the ring cameras wouldn't record deliveries and burglars or suspicious people and it's a challenge eating all those frozen Brussel sprouts in one go before a holiday stuck in a plane🤣🤣3 -
Malkytheheed said:Thanks all for the input, I'd probably say 4kw/h is right enough for us then, I had a few wifi routers on, 2 TV's 1xFF couple watt lightbulbs at night, Helium miner (5w). Few Hey google devices, I guess it does all add up. Never thought, in a first world country, in the developed world, a family with good salaries would be totting up things and worrying over 100w here and there. It's utterly bonkers. My average daily usage over the whole of the previous year is 3.7 kWh.On the contrary, far from being bonkers, perhaps these high prices are just what we need to make everyone who was previously too lazy to reduce their energy usage think about what they are using, rather than burning through 4 kWh each day when they are not even at home, which let's face it is not great for the environment.4

I've been saying for 2 year's we all need to take better ownership of what we use not just in energy either.
As much as I hate what I'll be paying in the months coming, I think it's about time that we're all started to feel it. I was a low user anyway but I saved 1.6kwh's a day turning things off at the wall which is 190kg of CO2 a year less in the atmosphere, but if all 28 million house's across the UK saved an average of 2kwh's a day image how much less CO2 will be released per day/year.
It's a poor show if the bill payer doesn't know how many units of energy the household is using, how are other family members to know what items cost to run. It's been that cheap the bill payer has had no need to change their ways. These prices will the the new norm once they settle at a higher rate around April is my guess, they may come down a bit but the days of cheap energy is gone.0 -

When it hits peoples' pockets, then they are more likely to act. I fear that too many people don't understand their usage to begin with and don't have the ability to work out how to change their behaviour.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). A lot of smugness from people who only use 3kw/h a day in normal usage. Sorry but I don't want to live like that. I want to actually enjoy my life a little. Also why is it by defacto "bad" to use more energy? Im in Scotland, 99% of the actual electricity sent to homes here comes from wind turbines so there is no need to be pious about using less. I don't want to live like a caveman.1
