  • Mine is 5.3kw per day, background is 225w per hour.
That's mainly the fridge/freezer and 2 other deep freezers.
Plus all the other standby items add up.
4.3kwp JA panels, Huawei 3.68kw Hybrid inverter, Huawei 10kw Lunar 2000 battery, Myenergi eddi, South facing array with a 15 degree roof pitch, winter shade.
  • Thanks all for the input, I'd probably say 4kw/h is right enough for us then, I had a few wifi routers on, 2 TV's 1xFF couple watt lightbulbs at night, Helium miner (5w). Few Hey google devices, I guess it does all add up. Never thought, in a first world country, in the developed world, a family with good salaries would be totting up things and worrying over 100w here and there. It's utterly bonkers.

We’ve used 2.73kWh since midnight till now. Includes having the oven on for half an hour to cook dinner. We’ve used 30.5kwh over the past 7 days according to our in home unit. But two days of this are skewed as we have had tradesmen in using our power for tools those days.

How are some people using more than us by not being at home?
we always have 2 tvs on standby, router, ring doorbell and floodlight cam, fridge freezer and a separate small fridge, cooker/dishwasher/washing machine on standby.

Hopefully some people can find some gremlins sucking power and save a bit more energy and money.

Well your oven is between 4kw and 7kw. If you had it on for 30mins that that itself is 2-3.5Kw/h Let alone all your other things. So looks like you are being undercharged. What you do with that information is up to you.

I reviewed our usage recently, and idle (everything off but in standby where applicable and fridge on) it was ticking over around 240w an hour.    I turned off everything that was on standby at the plug, and it dropped to 64w.   There were a couple of things I had to leave on.

For four years, our summer months have been daily use of 18.xx kWh.  Very consistent.  (excel spreadsheet recording the monthly readings and equating that into day/night use and daily use)   However, with rising costs and after the review, which resulted in devices not being kept in standby (except sky main box) and switching to eco on the dishwasher, we have been consistently around 12.xx kWh per day.   I still have a few more adjustments to make which should be in place this week, and I am hoping it will get below 10kWh per day.

An oven that is on for half an hour, is not actually on for a significant amount of that time (the thermostat turns of power once up to temperature).
It may be a mini oven too!

Apparently a roast will cost around £4-5 with all the trimmings for oven and hob costs come 1st October.

A roast will only be for the rich, you can now tell the rich in the street from the smell of their roast beef and potatoes 🤣🤣🤣

@dunstonh Well done you, the standby costs really can make a big difference.

Good luck with your quest to 10kWh.

I was away last week & switched off everything apart from the router, fridge freezer, burglar alarm box & the electric recliner chair. The oven & washing machine plugs were on but both appliances off. I consistently used 1.02-1.04kWh a day according to the British Gas app. 77p a day, which I guess is the standing charge & 1 unit of electric.

I also found my 5 min shower uses 1kWh as the day I left to go away I only had a shower & boiled the kettle for coffee before leaving. My energy use is minimal anyway. The only thing I actually switched off was the dehumidifier, everything else has always been off at the wall unless being used.
On Saturday I did two loads of washing, showered, used the airfryer to cook & watched TV & I used just over 3.5kWh.

    Back to the OP

Constant 65w - 70w + FF (which is intermittent, and  little higher in summer) averaging a total just over 100w (so 2 - 2.5 kWh per day) which as suggested earlier in the thread, is a reasonable target background for most users.
Could be a little lower with obsessive powering off when away (e.g. Sky box).
