My relatives showed photos from holidays they had taken together and from family events as part of their evidence that the relationship went back some years.
They were also asked a lot of questions about each other's family.

Where are the pair of you living at the moment?

Do you yourself have a full time stable job?

If you are Irish, and she is from an EU country why not just set up base in Ireland?

We are in her house in her home country now.
I do not have a full time stable job.
UK is more tax friendly to us than Ireland.

Do you actually live together? This visa is for married partners or those that are unmarried but in a relationship to the same level

If in your partners home you should be named on the council tax bill and have other bills such as phone, bank & credit cards registered to that address

We have spent almost all of the past 3.5 years together, be it in in Airbnb, hotels, medium term rental or family places.
Due to so much moving around I did not set up recurring bills or establish tax residency.
Our Irish bank accounts are both linked to the same address in Ireland.

Were they unable to show 2 years of living together, and this was accepted instead?

    Thanks for all replies.

Hard to advise as your answers are abit evasive and hard to build a picture of what really is the current situation and what will be the situation when you get to the UK.

Looks like you need to regularise your affairs by registering your bills to the same address etc then apply when you do have evidence.

have you looked at the other requirements for entry to uk
    I spent a few hours looking at the different visa options, here is my summary of each one I think she could apply for;

    Settlement scheme:
    - Lived in UK pre 2020, albeit almost 10 years ago and just for a few months
    - Proof of "continuous residence in UK" is needed - will her tax number, showing she spent a few months there, suffice?
    - Unsure what "reasonable grounds" for a late application would be used

    Points based visa:

    - She has desire to work, but unsure if she is in demand enough to be sponsored. She has worked in customer service and translation previously.

    Partner visa:
    - Geniunely have been living together for a few years, albeit in short term accom or family owned accom for large parts of it.
    - If they are quick to reject applications on technicalities it would be an issue - if however they keep asking for more proof (trying to disprove our claim) we would be fine.

    Innovator/start-up visa:

    - How difficult is it to be endorsed?

    - Need to find an idea first

    - If approved, can stay 2 years with ability to work in another job. Could then apply for partner visa after these 2 years together.

What is the desire to live in the UK on both your parts? You said something about more tax friendly but there has to be more. And it won't be very tax friendly if you don't have a job.

You've said you're Irish. Your partner is from somewhere else. You both don't seem to have spent any length of time in the UK.

But all of a sudden now you want to move to the UK? Your partner has no real sponsorship skills. You have said that you yourself don't have full time stable employment with where you currently live.

Didn't realise you didn't have decent employment. How do you propose to meet the sponsorship financial requirements of the partner visa?

Yes they will want much more evidence of a real relationship, you currently do not have that. You are expected to apply with it and it's doubtful they would keep contacting you asking you to send more. They are busy and expect you to send everything with your application
  • At this stage, your only option is looking like getting married.

Myself and my partner recently had a partner visa denied by the Home Office (I'm the UK citizen),  and I'm in full time employment and meet the income threshold. The reason? We hadn't lived together continuously for 2 years. We have lived together for a few months at a time and had leases with both our names to prove it - we thought there may be exceptions because of the pandemic. There aren't and they are very strict on the 2 year thing.

Don't expect a quick response either  - it took us 6 months to hear anything back.

They asked us if we wanted to apply for a fiance visa instead so we went for it. That's only valid for 6 months so we will be applying for a marriage visa after we get married.

We put together a document which showed us in different places and with each other's family etc and they granted it. They already had everything else from the partner visa application.

I am young and hope to live off my investment income.
    The tax efficiency between living north and south of the border in Ireland is huge in my case;

A certain level of savings will suffice.

We hadn't lived together continuously for 2 years.
Does it need to be the same home for 2 years?
I saw a mention that 12 pieces of proof are needed to prove this?
If so, I imagine they want them over the full 2 year span?
