Can anyone recommend a cat deterrent for a garden?

  • I use one of theses https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01DACLHT2/?coliid=IF0POIJK13NIL&colid=1NP2DPBZVIRXG&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it it's gone up a few quid since I bought mine. The only negative I've found is it can go off in bright sunlight.
Thanks. With these, does the hose have to constantly be on?
You can disconnect the hose to use it for another purpose when you need it, and then connect it again when you're finished. Hozelock connectors are easy to connect/disconnect. Just remember it's plugged in, and don't walk in front of it yourself. Unless you also want a shower :)
Doesn't having the tap constantly on cause some issue?

another vote for the water scarecrow. I had one and it worked a treat, the neighbours cat only got sprayed once and then never went near again! I don't think the hosepipe ban would stop someone using them, they spray about 200ml when activated and very rarely operate
  • I kept the birds & the cats off my newly sewn grass seed by shoving bbq skewers into the bare topsoil, poking out at all angles. It was the only thing that worked. Also did the job of stopping the neighbours cats from littering in my garden. Prior to that, I knew which neighbours cat it was pooing on my grass so I’d pick it up with a trowel & throw it back over their fence. Their cat, their poo….

My octogenarian parents were armed with a couple of water-guns to prevent the next-door cat from visiting. Kept all 3 of them alert!

None at all. As long as your connectors are decent quality. The only time to be mindful would be on a cold hard frost - I'd probably disconnect it then. I only had it running over the summer months.

You can’t be serious about putting bbq “Punji” sticks in the garden surely?
honestly it sounds about as likely to work as standing guard with a water pistol, the cat would just wait until you left! :D

I sprinkled red hot chilli powder everywhere in my garden, which stopped other cats using our garden. My cats use an indoor litter tray.

Nice spiky branches from rosebush trimming work to make an area less attractive to cats - but they need to be reasonably close together.

I've used a mini supersoaker. Great fun. Neither the pigeons, seagulls or cat came back

I've also successfully used largish pebbles and stones on the spaces they go for. That worked.dont think of pea shingle. That doesn't do it but a dressing of sharp gravel, the cheap stuff does.

But the neighbours cat is out front 24/7 and determined.
I'm going to get the soil guard, spikey plastic grid that goes just under the soil. You can cut it to go round plants.
    Scat mat.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
