There's a known problem with these meters (MWT mentioned it) where they reset to zero then start counting up again, now with three decimal places rather than one. This looks to be what has happened to yours.

There have been several previous threads, although none recently; I think most people caught the problem sooner than you have.

Speak to British Gas, hopefully they will be familiar with the problem. It's likely they will want to change your meter.

I suspect you're going to have to let them estimate your usage for the period.
