Meter driving me bonkers
Hi everyone, I'm wandering if anyone has experienced similar.
I moved into my house March 2021, took a meter reading for the electric, meter read
"Total act import
011961.1 kwh"
Unfortunately I was a bit lax on taking meter readings because our neighbours are having work done and I have to go on their drive to access my meter box, there's always workmen or skips there etc. Basically it was awkward trying to get to. British Gas were estimating our usage and it was in line with what we were using at our last place so I didnt really worry too much.
Fast forward to April this year, I went to get a meter reading and the meter reads
"Total act import
2994.175 kwh"
Well this figure is lower than the one in March 2021.
I've contacted British gas and I keep getting told they are waiting for the relevant department to look into it.
I've taken monthly readings since and the meter is going up, the most recent was
3501.081kwh.
My meter is a SMETS01 I believe.
The previous owners said they changed supplier and the smart meter didn't work so they binned it.
Someone suggested it might be an old dual fuel meter but I've pressed all the buttons on the meter and that is the only meter reading it gives.
I was just wandering if anyone has had a similar experience and if so, what did their supplier do? I'm getting frustrated that nothing is happening. I'm checking back with them every fortnight and keep getting told the same thing.

I should also add, I always take a photo of the meter when I take a reading and I still have them so its not a case of I've written it down wrong or anything.

There was a problem with some SMETS1 meters where a firmware update (part of adopting them into the DCC) caused the meter index to get reset to zero...Looks like you have had that same problem...1

This looks to be what has happened to yours. There have been several previous threads, although none recently; I think most people caught the problem sooner than you have.Example threads:Speak to British Gas, hopefully they will be familiar with the problem. It's likely they will want to change your meter.I suspect you're going to have to let them estimate your usage for the period.N. Hampshire, he/him.
