You can (try to) force a page to refresh via headers, but there's no guarantee that the browser will respect the request.
The main issue of the threads listing showing your own post as the new post (when clicking on the forum link rather than the back button) seems to be resolved - as I noted 6 days ago.Jenni x0 -
It is not fixed and there is a bug, it was never like this, when I joined all those years ago and even after the major upgrade to a new forum 2-3 years ago, if you clicked back after reading a thread/discussion, the thread/discussion that you had been reading was not showing as a new, unread thread! What do you suggest I do after reading a post and I want to go back to the list of posts?0

Yes, it is @Jenni_D BUT what do YOU do after you have read a post, how do you go back to the list of posts? Do you use the BACK button? If there is a simple/different way, I will try it. When I hit BACK, the post in the thread I have been reading is showing as NEW; it goes away if I do a refresh but that is two keystrokes; why should I have to do this? Why cannot the software just say "after reading a post and the user hits BACK, go back and do a refresh"?Jenni_D said:You can (try to) force a page to refresh via headers, but there's no guarantee that the browser will respect the request.

I press the Home key (to go to the top) then click on the forum link.
Pressing the Back button simply goes back one page in browser history ... that won't guarantee giving you a refreshed page. That's the way things have been almost since browsers were invented.

I have to agree with @Le_Kirk, it is only in the last few months that the New marker has not been removed when using the Back button and clicking refresh has been necessary. As a Comper, I check every thread that is posted on the Competitions time board and have (until recently) used the New markers to see whereabouts on a page I had got to and have found it quite irritating that I now have to do a refresh that wasn't previously needed to get rid of these markers.Jenni_D said:I press the Home key (to go to the top) then click on the forum link.

I guess I am getting used to it but it is still a bit of an irritation. Why did it get changed?Bob1 -
I imagine the Vanilla software package was updated and changed the standard headers ... or browsers have updated and no longer respect those headers. 🤷♀️Jenni x0

That is two actions whereas it used to be one click and if you use your method @Jenni_D one ends up at the top of the list again and not where you were, so having to scroll down to find your place - three actions! Oher forums, for example one we know well, Pepipoo, works using the back button.Jenni_D said:I press the Home key (to go to the top) then click on the forum link.

ETA, since the issue of the post showing as NEW after posting a comment is fixed and I use the back button after reading posts, what is the difference?0
