I'm ever so ever so ever so pleased with these:

    Those look fab!

I have two questions though (because I have bought a heart shaped ice cube tray yesterday and have had two attempts so far) - do you put the decorations on the bottom of the moulds and then pour the chocolate in? And also, how to you get the bottoms of the chocolate flat? Mine end up all rough :(

Thanks again for all the inspiration!

    Hi

I put the choc in the moulds first and the decorations on the top.

You can see from this pic that I did some plain choc ones and there's a bit of a 'swirl/blob' where I cannot get them to be smooth!

If i turned them over they are all really smooth on the other side but for some stupid reason they wouldn't fit in the box that way rolleyes.gif

I poured the choc in and then used the back of a teaspoon to 'smooth' it of as much as I could and then I put the toppings on the top.

I hope that makes some sense redface.gif
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

These are such a fantastic idea- will definitely be having a go at these later!
  • Quick idea to get them smooth (it worked for me any way) is to do them all , use a fork to swirl a bit to loosen the top layer, as it tends to grow a skin as it sets, then put them in the microwave for about 10 seconds NO LONGER OR THEY MAY BURN! lol and this vcan help them look smoother, probs worth trying on one or two first though just incase it oesnt work for you! :]

  • These are a fantastic idea - I made 9 on Thursday night for each of my friends and several were sure that I'd got them from Thorntons :rotfl:

Unfortunately I didn't have any silicon baking trays, so I improvised, using the top of a plastic lunchbox! They gave them a nice pattern, though, and still looked fantastic!

To smooth them out, I first used the back of a tablespoon, and to get rid of the swirly 'blob' left where I lifted the spoon away, I gently tapped the tray on the work surface until it had evened out.

I plan to make these again - everyone loved them!
  • No need to wait until Valentine's Day when New Year is approaching, I bought this Ice Shot Glasses silicon mould today in M&S for £2 :j
