Dealer finds a fault after buying my car.

    Well, unless you misrepresented the car, its there. They were not buying from a trader, they would figure these losses into their business. I would ignore and block their calls.
  • Motorway.com have got back to me so I've given them the details. I'll wait and see if they are prepared to take any action.

    What action would they take? Did they buy the car? confused.

    Motorway should tell the dealer that it's their issue.

Perfectly timed as I just received a reply to my "assertive" email from last night saying "the person who collected the car was a driver not an inspector" which is odd, as they inspected the car, but if they aren't qualified for that it's a further derogation of their own due-dilligence.

    Interesting that they got in touch a few minutes after I detailed my experience to motorway.com

    I've been told the details have been passsed on to Motorway's dealership team.

    I'd go back to them and quote Motorways T&Cs and say if they have a problem it should be done via Motorway not between you and them ( The Dealer ), and IF you receive any instruction from Motorway you will then consider your options...

    Be careful with the dealership team - I've worked in Motor Finance and the Dealership team are usually on first name terms with some of the bigger dealers ( and may have worked there themselves first ) - they may get the odd bottle of stuff at Christmas and may not be wholly impartial...

    I really really advise to not get into discussions with anyone, the car is not yours, there ends your involvement. Motoway may well try and pressure you so they get their commission.

    I agree. 

    I don't do cars, but I've bought and sold a lot of houses over a long period of time and I know the law - I can't not after all this time - the same rules of 'caveat emptor' apply.  

    There's no way a large dealer doesn't understand what their rights and responsibilities are and I thought exactly the same as you when I read this.  They know exactly what they are doing.  

    It's someone trying to undo the fact that they haven't followed procedure and are trying to shift blame back onto the OP. 

    I'd block the dealer.  I appreciate that you have a conscience OP, that's wonderful. But you are dealing with someone without one.  

    Block them.
