I also have a car under my window, has been parking here for weeks, and I don't think it belongs to any of the residents in the building. Based on the reg plate, it seems the MOT is OK. I wonder why there is no website (as far as I know) where owners can report if their car is stolen, would that not help vehicle recovery? People, like myself, could easily look it up and tell the authorities if a car has been reported missing.

Does that help?

Does that help? What a great idea.Pity you can't actually find out if a vehicle is stolen without an account, that you can't register for......No idea why not, it doesn't give any errors.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

it appears to have had several notices or stickers attached to the windshield and windows, which somebody [the owner?] has attempted to remove. Can't tell what the notices or stickers say or said. There is a handwritten A4 note inside on the dashboard saying "I live here!" (!).

This website did work in the end, I managed to register with a disposable email address. Please note, it seems that the site is about 1-2 months in delay compared to the actual police report. The car I searched for only appeared on this site in the past two days even though it had been reported as stolen over two months ago.

I'd forgotten about this thread but just to give an update, the car (a black Audi Q5 with vanity plate) stayed there another couple of weeks. I was told that a couple of residents had complained (multiple times) to the council that the car had obviously been abandoned outside their houses and that it eventually got lifted onto a low loader and was taken away. But whether that's actually what happened or not I don't know...0

It so happens that I reported a dumped car just last week.
It had been in the same place for several months, MOT failed in April 2022 and VED ran out end August. 2006 diesel in what will become a ULEZ zone.
Once the tad expired, I reported the vehicle and the LA wrote back to say they do not consider it dumped at this stage. No action will be taken by the LA or DVLA over no VED until that is 2 months and 2 days overdue. No car will be assessed as dumped by the LA unless it has no MOT, no VED (with the delay) and has been inspected in the same place with no change of condition three months apart. For the LA to actually get around to a sticker is going to be several months in any case.0 -
The local council's have to be careful with reported abandoned vehicles, as they only have powers to remove actually abandoned vehicles, hence the 3 month check. If they remove a car that isn't abandoned, they can end up with a big bill. They'll normally try the RK, and check the vehicle status. Bear in mind if someone has had a coronary and been unwell for months, they might not have getting the road tax etc. sorted at the top of their priority list. Or maybe in prison, on a world tour, etc.0
