  • Octopus Energy employs over 1200 people and it doesn’t have a HR Department. This responsibility is left to individual Team Managers. I would have thought that a few drinks at the end of the week was a good way to build/strengthen teams; pass on information, and deal with any concerns.

In truth, it matters not one jot how the CEO of Octopus Energy chooses to run his private company. FWiW, I think that he is making a pretty good job of it.

Yes, it would be hard to find a worse paper. Pure Junk.

  • Going slightly off topic but I was surprised they’re the 4th largest supplier now. I’m guessing that’s on the back of all the customers they gained trough the SOLR process. They must have more customers than Scottish Power and EDF.

If only more companies were run without an HR department. All HR does in most companies is produce BS and paperwork that reduces the number of hours the proper employees can do productive work. The burden is even worse for people managers, who spend more of their time producing paperwork to prove to HR that they have followed all the processess and 'new initiatives' that are decreed to them by HR. In Octupus it sounds like managers are given the chance to manage their staff in a way which works best for them and their staff. If that is some informal training and a drink on a friday afternoon then that's great as far as I'm concerned.

HR departments forget that happy staff are productive staff...

Call centre staff have a tough job for poor wages.  As an octopus customer I don't begrudge them a beer when having staff training.  I do get a little bitter when Shell makes £9 Billion quid in 3 months work, i don't see their CEO cutting his salary to minimum wage and donating the rest to their hardship fund.

Being cynical I would say the big energy firms don't like being made to look like muppets, so they get their buddies from Eaton to run some trashy stories on their competition.
  • MP's have bars in their place of work.  They are frequented morning, noon and night as far as I am aware.  This story is fit for wrapping tomorrows fish and chips.

Comparing Octopus employees to MP's is definitely worth of a daily mail story🤣🤣🤣

This must be a great morale booster for employees. I wish my employer was as kind to its staff. Looking after employees and valuing them is one of the most important things and yet so many dont give it the priority it deserves.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

    Typical Daily Mail garbage.

Octopus sounds like a great place to work which treats it’s staff like valuable human assets, rather than disposable widgets. I certainly don’t begrudge call centre staff a few drinks on a Friday afternoon.
