Don't call Octopus Energy after 4pm on a Friday... because that's when staff crack open the booze

I don't have a problem with this. Those staff are probably spending most of their working days being abused by the public at the moment. If they have a few drink with colleagues on a Friday afternoon to help them relax before they go home I cannot see why anyone reasonable would have an issue with that.14

Sounds like a more decent place to work than most.5

A bit lost is that this seems to be training and information, where the staff is allowed free drinks. The presentations last from 30 minutes to an hourNot sure what they are complaining about, that the staff gets free drinks, or about the 1 hour less support time. Everybody is complaining that the agents are not knowledgeable enough, now they complain about additional information and training.
It makes little difference if staff is trained at the same time, or at different times. One hour of support time is lost.
I could understand the complains if it would be an hour in the evening that could be used by people working and not able to call during their work time, but most of those will not be home before 5pm. And there are still Monday to Thursday.
It is also up to Octopus how they use their 2% profit margin, and I personally think to give a little bit to the agents who must get a lot of abuse every day is not wrong.4 -
Sounds like an old school of thought, yeah can't disagree must be a nice relief with all the worried people they have to deal with.
It used to be Friday lunchtime back in the good days, nobody went back to the office.
Just a bit of daily mail light relief🤣0 -
I see no issues in closing phone lines 1 hour early on a Friday in order for staff to have a drink while having extra training. If anything i applaud them for doing this, shows how much they want to look after staff who must be having truly awful phone calls for the rest of the week. I also applaud them for having the Xmas party 6 months late and delaying it. I'm sure if they did have a Xmas party in December when other suppliers are going bust the press would hate that too, can't win really!

But not so use full if they are then fuzzy on the new training/tariffs. And concentration drops on Fridays and afternoons anyway.0 -
