A word to the wise - two recent issues with Asda Rewards that I've had:

    1. I signed up to Asda online shopping in March 2020. Used it during the pandemic, but shop 95% of the time instore these days, very ocassional online delivery order. I signed up for the rewards app eight weeks ago, and have used it with varying success instore since then. However, did an online order about 10 days ago, but could not work out how to get the rewards. Could find nothing on the website or FAQs about what the issue was. Phoned Asda and they explained you have to use the same email address for the app that you used for online shopping when you signed up years ago. Nothing to be done, but will obviously now open a new online shopping account with the right email address.
A bit of a pain to put it mildly as i have shopping lists saved etc. Main gripe is why such a key bit of crucial information is not really highlighted when you sign up for the app or try and resolve it later.

    2. Shopping instore last weekend, went through the checkout, went to open the app to get it scanned, and it wouldnt open. Never happened previously but it wanted me to log in and I couldn't, tried to reset the password but couldn't - queue behind me so had to give up. Spent £152 including star buys so hacked off and feeling a bit conned by the whole thing. Couldn't go to customer services as 15 people in the queue and I had frozen food.

Emailed Asda about it, sent a receipt scan - and they don't want to know. Also they don;t seem bothered about my first issue either.
Both of these follows a previous time on 27th Dec when I scanned the app (as shown on the receipt), yet it didn't credit me any reward. Took some running around to get that sorted.

Suffice to say, I have taken a screenshot of my reward card in the app as a backup in case I can't open the app again!
Pmd the team to merge with the ongoing Asda rewards thread

Yet one more thing that I cannot do because I do not own a mobile phone.

I don't see the point in buying and owning a mobile phone if the only reason I would own it is so I can get tiny discounts from weekly shopping. The cost of the mobile phone per month would be a lot more surely?

The point of having a mobile is to make and receive calls, texts etc. when you’re out the house, on holiday or like me if you have no landline because my internet is fibre. The saving on your shopping is an added bonus. I’ve cashed in £70 in Asda vouchers so far which I am extremely happy with.

I could probably get the asda app on my ipod touch and use my landline to verify but it seems like too much hassle.

Card can now be added to Google Wallet which is stored on phone so no need to open the app.
  • I have recently started using the Asda Rewards app..... and I think it's a big con!! Let's face it, these companies are NOT going to give us money. In my opinion, this scheme is a licence for Asda to hike their prices thereby cancelling out whatever they are "giving" to customers. In the last two shops alone I have seen that items that I buy weekly have gained the yellow star and their prices have jumped HUGELY (e.g. New York Bagel Co pack of 5 bagels gone up from £1.30 per pack to £1.90 OVERNIGHT).
I hope I'm wrong, and would love for someone who has the time and werewithall to properly investigate this and prove that I'm wrong, but in the meantime, I smell a rat :(

The app is not a con, I have had over £80 so far.

The price hikes are across all supermarkets and there are a few threads discussing them. Asda, for me is still the cheapest supermarket for my needs and the rewards are a massive bonus which I use for treats.

I am not a regular Asda shopper but tried the rewards app briefly, cant be bothered with it. And as I have noticed Asda prices much higher now go there a lot less, as does  a friend who is not smartphone savvy. It might gain a few customers but it also loses quite a few. Back to Aldi and Lidl for us.

  • I "earnt" £7.38 doing my shop there at the weekend. I don't do a big shop there often but its convenient for work.
I'll use it but won't go out of my way to use it.

Shame they only last 6 months as I'd have built mine up for Christmas
    Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

    Make £2024 in 2024...

It seems a bit complicated to me. I have to concentrate at the checkout and anything extra can muddle me. Over a third of my shop was yellow-stickered this week and I got the 10% discount on my Blue Light Card for which I am very grateful. I hope Asda will continue with that.
