How fast did you receive a smart meter?

  • I am an Octopus Energy customer and I have been waiting for a smart meter installation for over six months, with no prospect of an installation date in sight.  I am just getting computer-says-no, no dates available answers.  I need a smart meter in order to receive export payments from solar panels which have already been installed. And no my existing analogue electricity meter has a ratchet so doesn't go backwards.

Any advice as to how to speed up the process?

I chase them weekly and have elevated my complaint to the energy ombudsman.

I waited about a month with Octopus but I did make sure to put me on a short notice list .Meter fitters do have occasional no answers  when they appear to fit new meters at properties so then have a gap to fit in a short notice fitting in the week  .
Mine was three days notice .He turned up on time and did it in an hour .He also took my advice to switch suppiers to Octopus and we both got £50 referral fees !

I seems to depend on where you live. Many people report getting a smart meter fitted within a couple of weeks of joining Octopus. I waited over 6 months because I live in a very rural area and the nearest installers are well over 60 miles away, so they have to accumulate a days-worth of jobs in an area before it is worth the travel costs.
