July 2015 I had smart meters fitted within a week of opting for their free electric tariff.
Someone please tell me what money is

why the rush to get a smart meter? Or rather, let me re-phrase that - what advantage do you think a smart meter will give you that you don't currently have from the meter already in place? Absolutely it makes sense to get one installed at some point - I'm not for a moment bashing them - but you seem to be anxious to move the process forwards faster, and it's not clear why you feel that you need to do this?

  • Probably is supply and demand depending on postcode?
My eon next meters were fitted within days of initial contact by their own installer.
It was a condition of the tariff I'm on.
Not so advantageous because I still have to submit reading manually every month. B)

I joined Sainburys last October and got my mum on Eon Next last August and i'm almost sure both tariffs said they needed smart meters if we didn't already have one and they would contact us in due course. Not heard a peep from either since.

I did contact EonNext and had confirmed that I could remain on the same tariff if it wasn't feasible for "smart" meters (location of existing, mobile phone signal etc.).
Seems odd, no contact, but if Mum wants a "smart" meter maybe contact them?
I think it was about a month after starting the tariff they sent an e-mail and text message for an appointment to be made for fitting.

Thanks for that. Yeah, she's in the Scottish Islands so that could be the reason. Neither her or us are particularly bothered or in a rush for them. I manage her account for her and there's been no contact. Same with us.
  • A couple of weeks, with So Energy and EDF. Almost 3 months later, So still hasn't got the IHD working, but that's another issue.

Because I've just had Solar Panels installed and to benefit from the Seg Tarrif I need a smart meter.
