1 bedroom new build - payment options

I'll be moving into a 1 bedroom new build on my own in about 2-3 weeks. I haven't looked into energy bills as I'm so confused. I'm not sure whether paying direct debit (risking a high payment due to lack of history for the homes / not knowing my usage) or whether paying monthly/as my bills arrive is the better option? I would also be tempted to do a payment meter but not sure if this is any different to paying as I get bills

Hi all, looking for some advice. We're moving into a new within the next 2 months and wondered what's the situation with sorting out bills for new build properties? Do you think we could find an agreement pre move to ensure we fix on our gas and electricity before we move in? Cautious we'll be hitting the higher rates come October...

Hi Roz3625,
There’s no clear-cut answers – and it will difficult to know exactly how much you should be paying as there’s no history of energy use at the property. But there are a few things to be aware of.
When you move in, you’ll be placed on a standard tariff by whoever the deemed supplier is. This will follow the energy price cap.
Paying by direct debit is the cheapest way to pay. The prepay price cap is about 2% higher, and for those who pay each month after getting a bill, 7% higher.
Hope this helps!
