Warning ! iPhone upgrade destroyed my iPhone 7
Options
This is a warning and a question
My iPhone 7 128gb had a new battery fitted by an Apple approved repair shop a few months ago. During the upgrade to IOS 15.6 the other night, the phone grew incredibly hot. After displaying the progress bar it then failed any further activity. I took it to the repair shop and after changing the battery and screen, they found that the video chip had been burnt out.

I DM’d Apple support on Twitter and they said they could estimate a repair cost!
I’m a retired IT professional and it is proven that the Apple update caused the irreparable damage. (Lots of others having their batteries destroyed during update, and I was told by the repair shop that one man had his leg burnt while his phone upgraded in his pocket,)

Is there any way that I can get Apple to pay the appropriate £200 equivalent replacement cost as I don’t see why they should get away with this?
TIA

What proof do you have, aside from anecdotal evidence that it’s happened to others? Is it a known issue that Apple have taken responsibility for?I don’t disbelieve you, but stating something is proven doesn’t make it so.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
If you have actual proof they damaged your phone (not just a few anecdotes on the internet), you should pursue that. But also check what it says about software updates in the EULA.0

But also check what it says about software updates in the EULA.I’m sure Apple will have contractually removed themselves from any responsibility but the fact remains that the heating caused by the upgrade has fatally damaged my phone.I’m a Chartered Engineer in Electronics and also a Chartered Information Technology Professional with the British Computer Society and will certainly contact them about this.Any information given in my posts or replies is intended to be of interest and/or help to members of the forum. Should be an intersting conversation with Apple based on your qualifications... please do keep us updated on this.1

Update. They have asked to place a call with me. It has to be landline (no mobile!!) and we are on BT announce. They say that the call is an automated call so it might not get through the announce service. I’ve asked if they’ll give me the number to put in my permitted caller list.Any information given in my posts or replies is intended to be of interest and/or help to members of the forum. Video Chip? I’m pretty sure that your iPhone has a SOC so no video chip.0

If the apple approved repair shop are willing to put that in writing then I think your better off pushing Apple for £200 credit towards a newer model rather than trying to get them to cover the repair bill of your existing 7.1

I should have expected that correct comment. Equally I should have said that the video circuitry had been burnt out as I do know that iPhones have Sytems on a Chip.Any information given in my posts or replies is intended to be of interest and/or help to members of the forum.
