Unlock Sony Ericsson -Please?

I've tried a search for this, but couldn't find anything, apologies if I've missed it.
I was boasting to my daughter that I would be able to unlock her phone, with the help of this site.
I found martin's article on phone unlocking, but all the sites i tried were for Nokia. I'm looking for a FREE unlock code for a Sony Ericsson K800i.

Can anyone help???

no free way to unlock any sony ericsson.

if the phone is over a year old and on vodafone, they should give you the code for free. otherwise you will have to pay someone to unlock it
  • Most phone shops can unlock it for a tenner
  • Thanks gg, I've just been reading that on the thread that browntoa linked to. If it's any help to anyone else in this position, I just paid £2.99 to a site I found on google. It's called unlocksearch, it asked for the IMEI number and everything else, then said if I paid £2.99 via paypal, they would send me instructions to unlock my phone. Major RIPOFF! they sent me an email, effectively saying to take it to a market stall.

Sounds like good advice. Just a shame you paid £2.99 for it.
  • Yep.. I also got scammed by unlocksearch a couple of days ago. I needed to unlock my phone as I was nearing the end my contract. I'd unlocked a different phone online years ago with another company with no problems...they simply sent a code to key into your phone after payment. After googling for the service, Unlocksearch were at the top and the webpage looked very authentic, asking for your model and IMEI number. After payment they basically just sent you an email listing the different ways to unlock it (like I didn't know already) I emailed them for a refund and I actually got a reply saying it would be authorised. mmm...we'll see. I doubt I will to be honest.

Keith P.. Lots of people unlock their phones online. It was a simple petty scam that conned us, and probably a lot more. Now be useful and tell us something we don't know.

Have you thought about calling your provider for the unlock code when your contract finishes....????

Tesco, Orange and vodaphone have done it for me in the past (although some phones do need to be hardwired to unlock)
  • Good idea sco0ter. Worth a ring to Orange.

No Sony's I know can be unlocked via code alone. So I'd be very surprised if Orange can give you a code. You need a unlocking dongle "multi-server cable" and a piece of software. There are plenty of people on eBay which sell these. I've unlocked both my last two K700 and W800, and removed the annoying branding, and you get so many more features, great icons etc. Well worth it IMO.

    This is the guy/company I used: http://www.mobyrepairs.com/oscommerce/catalog/index.php
