Partner & I disagree on gazundering: fear of overpaying for house in bad economic times

If you live in the house for a reasonable amount of time (years) the 15k will seem peanuts. I think we paid too much for the house we live in but love the place and couldn't care a fig about that possible overspend years ago.1
-
Asking for 15k off an 800k house is not gazunering, it is just messing about pointlessly. Jeopardising your transaction for the potential 'reward' of a 1.875% saving is just pointless.
Besides 15k is not going to be the remedy to bad economic times. If you are in the market for 800k house, 15k is not your rainy day amount.6 -
Will be good to get an update.
Did OP ask for the the discount and what was the outcome.
If OP asks the vendor and it's a no, they can still purchase at the original agreed price I would think.0 -
I didn't see the original opening post.
If they are talking about just having had a survey done and wishing to renegotiate based on that, personally I don't class that as gazundering.
If they are talking about being some way down the line post survey and only now going to try and drop the price as exchange nears then yep that is gazundering.
As for gazundering "sensitively" lordy, just own your actions OP. You say you've done it before so just get on with it. You can't polish turd like behaviour.

It sounds like you have a very upstanding moral partner. Pity they don’t.6

If I had to entertain the idea of gazundering pre-exchange for no reason other than the buyers trying it on, the retribution would cost them in the long run.
They could forget any good will gestures like:
instructions for appliance
me leaving any blinds/curtains that I won't have use for
deep cleaning before I leave

I think as a seller now you have to consider what's happening in the market.0 -

etcPeople are funny for all sorts of reasons. Our sellers were nice to us through the process. In the end they had to pay £200 for a couple of indemnity policies and then all the "good will gestures" disappeared.Like others have said, if the vendors are desperate they might have to swallow the price reduction. In most cases, it leaves a bad taste and if they can, they will pull out of the transaction.0 -

I mean it’s not a dealbreaker in a purchase this size clearly but still…
