Unbelievably tight bulb cover in oven!

  • andrew_1's "Wood & hammer" worked perfectly for me although I only hit it anticlockwise. It was already a little loose - about 5 degrees movement and I had already removed the oven door (so easy!) but was reluctant to hit the glass until andrew_1 persuaded me to try it. Should I put high melting point grease on the thread before I replace the glass? Will we ever be able to use engery saving oven bulbs?
  • Even if you're a 60-year-old female. Thanks!
  • Thanks, Andrew_1. Hammer and Wood is the answer. Not sure why Neff light bulb covers sould be so troublesome or so inaccessible but at least I know the solution. Thanks again.
  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you - This just end a rather lengthy bout of frustration! My Whirlpool appliance bulb cover was being quite stubborn and I consider myself of above-average strength. Still - the hammer and block of wood worked like an absolute charm in about 10 total taps.

    Thanks for the post!

  • Hi, thank you all for the useful tip. I just want to clarify the direction before applying pressure on the lamp cover. Anti clock wise means clock as an upside down position, means should i try to push the cover towards the Fan on the backwall OR is it anti clockwise as clock on my hand means i try to push towards the front door?

    Appreciate your help.

Before resorting to hitting the glass cover with anything and risk breakage or damaging the mounting plate, try heating the oven for a while to soften the gunk (that's how it got into the threads in the first place). Once heated, use a tea towel, or better yet, a silicone egg poaching ring, to grip the glass cover and twist it anti-clockwise (That would be the opposite direction to that which the hands of a clock travel when viewed from the front ) If that does not work 'then' try tapping the lens with a wooden drift and hammer.

    Cheers

It means that you look at it from a position where it comes towards you when it comes out, and then you turn it anticlockwise as though you were seeing it as a clock.

I realise this question is a bit old and dead, but it seems that the overall problem is recurrent

  • We tried one of the other suggestions on here - heat. Rather than turning on the oven, we used a hair dryer just to apply heat to the bulb. This worked really well, afterwards it just twisted off without any effort. The bulb was still hot to the touch so we used a silicone egg poacher to grip it.

The rubber glove thing works but not with expensive "Marigold" type gloves, they have to be the cheapest "Tesco Value" type. They are more rubbery.
