therealhyper said:Hello guys,SOO the direct debit was setup directly with the water supplier many years ago.I had a seperate account that just dealt with all my bills (I've found it easier to manage this way) and had a DD set up from this ''Bill'' account - this is where the billing amount should have been taken out from, this what was agreed with the water supplier..and what I've written down on the bill at the time (I made notes from the telephone call onto the bill...just a habit now).... and were any payments actually made from that account for your water?... and looking at your bills, or your online account, what does it say there about the payments and the outstanding amount owed?It is important to see if they have been telling you via your bills or your account that you have not been making payments and that the amount you owe has been increasing...0

Also have you received a direct debit guarantee that shows that a DD was really set up? Is there a direct debit for the water company listed at your account?0

First things first - trace back on your bank statements to see if ANY payments were made after the DD was set up. if they were, then trace forwards from there to see when they stopped.
Note for the future, once this is all sorted - cast an eye over your bank account once every quarter at a minimum to make sure you catch anything like this in the future.
