I'd possibly report it if there was a ban & they'd truly left it running as described, if not I'd just mind my own business.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.1

There's no ban here.. YetSevenOfNine said:I'd possibly report it if there was a ban & they'd truly left it running as described, if not I'd just mind my own business.
But it is not very nice is it?

So basically they aren’t breaking any rules you just don’t think it is ‘nice’. I think you would look very foolish to report something because you are jealous of their sprinkler or just don’t think it is nice. There are still sprinklers being used in some council green areas where I live, hoses are being used to water public areas there is no ban in place so they aren’t breaking any rules. A neighbour hired a large rigid pool and filled that up, again breaking no rules.MouldyOldDough said:

I'm not saying it's the case for these two, but some places have their own bore holes so that they're not affected by either metering or hose pipe/sprinkler bans. As you say it's not "doing the right thing".Grumpy_chap said:I went for a walk this morning and noted that the local sports stadium and local primary school both had sprinklers operating across their amenity grass areas. These are both going to be on metered water but that does not seem to deter the desire for green grass. Potentially, both could also gain some "doing the right thing" points by not watering the grass.
My mother moans about this - generally golf courses near her - as their water extraction depletes the aquifer that everyone's water comes from.Decluttering awards 2025: 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️, DH: 🏅🏅⭐️, DD1: 🏅 and one for Mum: 🏅0 -
You may think it's not nice but they are not breaking any rules.MouldyOldDough said:

If your area announces a hosepipe ban and they continue to use theirs, I'd have a word with them (given your new information regarding their ages) before reporting them to the water company as you asked in your first post.2 -

Maybe it's their age - late 80s.0 -
I’m old, I always thought in very high temperatures you watered out of bright sun light? our council areas are also watered at dusk and dawn. I don’t water my own garden in the heat of the day either , not that I am much of a gardener but I do water a small bed of dahlias which I’ve managed to keep alive.MouldyOldDough said:

Otherwise why do it at night?I still don’t know what rules you think they are breaking to need to report them. If it’s not jealousy have they annoyed you, have you fallen out with them? Based on it not being very nice, perhaps you should check people’s bins in case their food waste is high and report them as some people are struggling to buy food ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Incidentally it isn’t an old wives tale about watering at night

Water meters should be compulsory.
This would stop people doing this
