Although, as per masie_cat's post, some (all?) water companies don't let you use a sprinkler if you don't have a water meter
My supplier has never mentioned it .  My sprinkler will be on later.

One of our neighbours has left his sprinkler running for the last week - all day and all night
He is NOT even on a meter
    What would you do ?
Would you let the water company know - anonymously ?
I doubt anyone would leave a sprinkler running if they were on a meter.
If your neighbour is not on  a meter he is paying(through the nose) for "as much water as s/he wants", so, without restrictions being in place, he is at the H2O equivalent of an all you can eat buffet.
    MYOB.

How would they know you were using one unless someone reported it?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Well up here in Northumberland Kielder water is almost full so my sprinkler has been working overtime

Op still hasn't said which area they live in......and to be honest its nothing to do with them

A number of years ago, our Water Company did exactly that - flew over the area to spot green lawns and compare with records of who had meters / permission for hose pipe and then followed up discrepancies.  That was in a drought year, which we've not had declared for a number of years and has not been declared this year either.

We are now in the area going to compulsory water meters, so the whole hose pipe / meter issue will disappear and, I suppose, the metered costs will mean that use of sprinklers reduces.

That cannot be guaranteed though.  I went for a walk this morning and noted that the local sports stadium and local primary school both had sprinklers operating across their amenity grass areas.  These are both going to be on metered water but that does not seem to deter the desire for green grass.  Potentially, both could also gain some "doing the right thing" points by not watering the grass.

Some unmetered properties have low charges, often lower than if metered.

The UK has had the driest July for 100 years and some areas will probably have hosepipe bans. I'm going to bookmark this topic just in case.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

They had their sprinkler running all of last night!!
But amazingly - their lawn is no better than ours!

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.
