We are now in the area going to compulsory water meters, so the whole hose pipe / meter issue will disappear and, I suppose, the metered costs will mean that use of sprinklers reduces.
That cannot be guaranteed though. I went for a walk this morning and noted that the local sports stadium and local primary school both had sprinklers operating across their amenity grass areas. These are both going to be on metered water but that does not seem to deter the desire for green grass. Potentially, both could also gain some "doing the right thing" points by not watering the grass.3 -

The UK has had the driest July for 100 years and some areas will probably have hosepipe bans. I'm going to bookmark this topic just in case. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

They had their sprinkler running all of last night!!
But amazingly - their lawn is no better than ours!
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
You know all those folk through covid who were keenly watching their neighbours and if they broke the rules etc? Well, now they have something new to occupy them....1
