I've recently (about 6 wks ago) replaced my old inefficient gas boiler with a new one, its a coventional boiler made by Ideal, I would expect a drop in our usage with this in place, we have a gas fired heating system and a gas hob only, EDF have estimated our usage at over 21kwh pa and have increased our monthly DD from this September to £379.00 a month (from the current £197.00) what can I do as that is a huge increase.

Are you on fix that is due to end some time soon ?
Is you account in credit or debit ?
From your bills, what was the ACTUAL usage in kWh for gas over the last year ?1 -

I guess you are on the SV tariff in that case, but are you in credit or debit ?
Surely you have some idea of your past energy use.2 -

Nov - Jan - 554 = 6169kwh
Jan - Mar - 652 = 7316kwh
Apr - Jul - 652 = 226 = 2536kwh.0 -
For the third time of asking, is your account in credit or debit ?2

Suppliers do not have physic powers. They cannot base estimates on new boilers; solar PV etc. They have to use historical usage as the basis for their calculations. You will only be charged for the gas that is used irrespective of the DD payment that has been set.
New boilers are not in themselves efficient. They need to be run with flow temperatures that ensure that the return flow temperature at the boiler is less than 56C: the lower the better. When hot water is being heated, boilers are run at maximum flow temperatures so are inefficient. Combi boilers are easier to control than heat boilers. I have a heat boiler and I run mine at 60C flow to ensure that the boiler is in its condensing mode for most of the time that the CH a is on. Combi boilers can be run at a lower flow temperature.0 -

Sorry its showing as £495.00 in debit.1 -
OK, so you underpaying now.
As above, EDF will use their current estimates.
Predicted rise in the cap on 1 Oct is 65% for average dual fuel users, you seem to be using above the average on gas and I am assuming you are a dual fuel customer.
Current DD £197 x 1.65 = £325 plus £41 to clear arrears (over 12 months) = £366
£379 doesn't look too far out for September onwards.
