To be honest I'm not entirely sure. It's easier to keep an eye on our spending now we are cash budgeting so i think once the kids are back at school I'll see what we have in the different catagories and see if there are any we can shuffle from to the mortgage overpayment pot. I'd like to end the year on a nice even number but ultimately any over payments are a bonus.

All we can do is try our best. ❤️

Okay so I've just done some calculations. I'll play it month by month and see how we go.
I've moved the money I had left from not withdrawing the money for our cash envelopes in the last week of july to a savings account that I've labeled specifically for mortgage overpayment money. Hopefully we won't need to touch it and at the end of the month I can make the payment.. I need to add to it over the course of the month to make it up to the £615

Once I've got this peice of work out of the way for my diploma I'll have a day listing some items for sale to see if I can make some extra cash and I'll see if there is some overtime available at work. I'm also going to quit smoking this month. I'm absolutely determined too . Any money saved again overpayment pot. I'm half tempted to just stick it all in a non openable tin and see how much is in there at the end of the year. And just make one large overpayment in December 🤔

I'll try and figure out what will work best for us . The tin idea is out of sight out of mind approach but how would we keep track of it 🤔 we could get to the end of year and be way off target. 🤔

According to our bank overpayment calculations an overpayment of £550 a month for the next ten years would clear the mortgage in exactly ten years that's providing we could get another fixed deal when ours ends of 2.19% if we can get a lower percentage we would be able to pay less but if the percentage goes up (which is more likely with how things are at the moment) we would have to overpay more  or £560 if we want to clear it the month of our 40th birthday (July 2032)

I've only just realised the time, I've been doing my diploma work.

I used a code off a friend for a free gousto Box and 30% off for the first month. I probably won't use the 30% off ones as its expensive but I figured if I use the free one that gives us 4 evening  meals this week at no cost.

If anyone would like a code comment below and I can give you a code to get the same deal
    and

when you order your free box I'll get £20 credit off my next order, so I might be able to order again for free 🥳🤣

    ETA

    Ends today at 1pm

With the money left over that we didn't spend last month and some money from this month I've managed to scrape together the £615 target for this months overpayment.

I've Gone through the cash envelopes and put aside £200 for September's overpayment it's just aside for now. Hopefully we won't use it and can use it towards next month's overpayment. We will see where we are at by the end of the month

I’ve had Gousto boxes for the past two months but my discounts have run out now.  It’s a shame as I’ve really enjoyed the meals.

Good luck. Well done for setting the £615 aside. My next question is -   could you earn more putting it into a series of regular savers than you would paying directly off the mortgage? That would also help with your EF.

  • Good evening my beautiful diary friends

    Just hopped into bed.
My tutor said the work I've done so far is exceptional so even though I'm only half way through the unit it's made the late nights / lack of sleep / and close to tears totally worth it.

@Moralpanic I will see how this week goes to see if we will do it again. It's great for inspiration though. I'll let you know how I get on I'd never pay full price not sure I'm prepared to pay the amount at 30% off yet 🤣 will let you know

@savingholmes great minds, I was actually thinking earlier should i just make a quarterly, 6 monthly or yearly overpayment instead. It's definitely something to think about. August overpayment has been paid and cleared now. So from September onwards I need to figure out what would be for the best.

Hope everyone gets a good night sleep I'm currently watching an airport programme on TV and it made me think I think ds2 would love to go to an airport to watch the planes take off and land so I'll try and find out where our nearest one is that allows you too watch..

Ds1 has said he wants to do the coronation Street tour.

And I'd like to go and watch a football match at Wembley and do the Wembley tour. So those are a couple of things up our sleeves for the coming months.

I'll try and make a list of free / cheap days out with the kids soon..

I want to really try and make the most of my weekends off from now on.

And I'd really like to start going to church again..

It's good to have a list of things you want to do / see / experience and tick them off. Makes you feel like you're living rather than existing.

I couldn’t agree more.  I have friends my age, almost fifty, who ‘can’t wait to retire’.  When I ask what they’re going to do they say relax! I have so many places I want to go and things to do.

I agree with this . Retirement is definitely about doing the things you wanted to do but haven't done.

    Morning my beautiful diary friends.
Well I've managed to submit half of my unit my tutor has marked it and I was shocked to have such positive feedback. It's gave me the motivation to know I can do it ! My tutor is phoning me today ill hopefully get the unit finished by the end of this week.

Not much spent since the beginning of the month we have used change out the change pot for the odd bread and milk.

Work has became unbelievably stressful. To the point my skin has flared up terrible 😕 and my cp is being effected. I've got two weeks until my week annual leave. But I'll need to speak to the gp about my skin at some point it's becoming unbearable.

    Have a lovely day everyone
