Take a look at the deals on the Uswitch website.
If you want to stay with O2 then you would have to port your number to another provider for a short while and then back to O2 when you have a new deal arranged.
Uswitch have 20gb data on O2 for £8 per month. Other deals are available.2 -

Lyca uses O2. No extra features like WiFi calling, just the basics although now meant include 5G. 1.49 for 6 months (12gb data unlimited calls and SMS) Just moved from Lebara as their 6 month 1.99 deal was coming to an end for me and was going up to 5.90 (gasp!). Easy to migrate and if your phone takes 2 Sims it can be seamless.

Excellent suggestions - thank you everyone. I’m going to look into these. 02 don’t charge for using mobile abroad hence one of the reasons of staying with them. I’ll check out cost of buying a data bundle to use when out of the country at the same time. Thanks again.0

Look at uswitch for o2 sim only deals then call o2 and say you want to pay x as you can get it from uswitch at that and if they don’t play ball get your pac and move0

Do you like something specific about O2, or just like their network coverage?
If the latter, there are several "virtual" providers that use the O2 network.
I've been with Tesco mobile, which is one of the virtual providers that use the O2 network and I've always found the SIM-only tariffs competitive, good customer service and also the roaming is included.
I have not checked prices for a while but whenever I have checked prices, Tesco have always been near enough to cheapest that it has never been worth the effort to switch.0
