02 sim - paying £11.40 a month!

I haven’t kept up with what I have been paying for my monthly sim only tariff with 02. I’ve been on 8gb, unlimited calls and texts for the past 3 years plus.  Previously paying £9 a month.  For the past few months it’s risen to £11.40 and due to family illness it hasn’t been at the top of my list to sort out.  I’ve spoken to retentions today and they say I am on the cheapest sim only at £11.40 and there isn’t a cheaper one.  Reading MArtin’s newsletter we shouldn’t be paying more than £5 approx.  My phone is a Samsung S10e and I don’t need to pay for a more expensive up to date phone.  I’m not one of their customers who goes over the limit and they can drag more money out of me either.  So I’m probably not on their “keep” list!  I’ve not had any problems with 02 and would prefer to stay with them.  Any ideas of how I can get them to lower their sim charge would be welcomed please.  Thanks.

If o2 won't budge, you could get a PAC from them, port your number out to a 'disposable' sim for a few days then port back in to any new o2 deal you fancy.
Easier to do is, if you get a decent o2 signal, look at Giffgaff, Sky Mobile, Tesco Mobile and Lycamobile. who all use the same o2 signal you have now.
+1 for Lebara though - been with them on 2 sims for a while (make sure you get a decent signal where you are - they use Vodafone's signal). I also have a Talkmobile sim which is good value (vodafone signal also)
  • If you don't mind EE coverage then Plusnet have an 18gb deal with unlimited calls and texts for £8/month.

There's sometimes cashback available through Quidco and Topcashback

Tesco have tended to cut the price of our sim only contracts more recently infact i have never known them to increase the price.
We each get 6gb data, 5000 mins/texts ample for our needs, 2x sims = £11.
I know probably Lebara can do better but happy enough to stay on 02.
Go in the Tesco mobile shop and ask what deal they can offer, we did last time when a Sky mobile deal looked tempting.

Find the cheapest deal for your usage with another network then request your PAC from O2. But wait a while before signing up and moving your number, to see if O2 offer you an equivalent discounted tariff to keep you as a customer.
    Evolution, not revolution

I pay less than that for more with O2 & that's after the 10.9% rise in March. If you want to stay with O2 (e.g. I value the O2Priority perks) you just have to keep your eyes out & jump on a deal when it appears iirc last time that I did it it was via a deal advertised on MSE.

What is you data usage like? Via moneysupermarket you can get £6 for 4GB on O2 (if thats your preferred network).  You dont even need to get a PAC - just apply online and select existing O2 customer.   You basically get moved to the different tariff without even changing SIM - no impact to any services or account details.
