I am not saying that our office is well run, but I was annoyed at the "laziness" comment by another poster when some of us try to provide a decent service despite all the attempts made to stop us!  And I did acknowledge the comment about management, most are either ineffective or a bully - and a lot are both.

Don't get me wrong, I am on your side with this as it is a fairly easy thing to get right - maybe missed every now and then by accident but really shouldn't be.

If you have gone through all the procedures then go to the top, the CEO's name is easy to find with a search then email firstname DOT d DOT surname at royalmail.com

I am a current postie.  I find the main reasons why people still receive the door-to-door items when they say they have opted out are:

    1. They have a sign on their door, but haven't actually opted out.
    2. They are registered with the Mailing Preference Service and assume it covers door-to-door items.
    3. They had opted out but have failed to realise that it needs to be renewed every 2 years.
    4. They haven't opted out but they have moaned at the postie, who isn't in a position to check anything and can be at the front end of every complaint despite not being in a position to check anything.

Easy to throw around accusations of "laziness" and "poor management" (though I agree with that one) without knowing the circumstances in the office.  In my office all opt outs are marked on the frame with a blue sticker, and a list of the door-to-doors is given out every week and that shows which addresses have opted out.

If the complaints are valid then there is no excuse for RM still delivering them.

    5. They have opted out via RM website, filled out all the forms, phone to complain after it didn't seem to work, got complaints put through to the sorting office and yet they still don't seem to be able to respect people's choices.

You don't seem to acknowledge number 5 so I'd assume you know how to do your job and/or your sorting office is well managed, but obviously that's not always the case.
Also as previously noted are you 100% certain its Royal Mail?

Many local takeaways, estate agents, window cleaners and other places will have their own people who post flyers.

Thank you for your further e-mail to the Postal Review Panel, received on 20 July 2023, regarding the delivery of unaddressed mail to your property.  Please once again accept my apologies for the problems this matter has caused.   Although I do appreciate the comments in your e-mail, Royal Mail have a legal obligation to deliver all mail, which included unaddressed items.  This is set out in the Postal Services Act, however the company do offer customers the ability to opt out of receiving unaddressed mail, although there is no legal obligation on them to do so.  This is why a printed signed copy of the Opt Out form must be received.    The Opt Out also only lasts for two years, at which time it must be renewed.  The reason for this is that people may move addresses in those two years and this, also, cannot be changed.    Please let me apologise once again.  I would like to give you my assurance that Royal Mail are not complacent about the quality of their service and are constantly striving to ensure that you receive the level of service you have every right to expect.   Yours sincerely   Rob Knowles

Seems like a standard computer generated reply.

You can only now monitor the situation going forward but even if the problem recurs I doubt you would get any positive action from RM other than a similar letter
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

An excellent response from Royal Mail, although a bit overdone with platitudes.
Past caring about first world problems.

They seem to be completely ignoring this too. Even after having gone through all this effort, I am still getting junk put in with my letter deliveries.
This is conclusive proof that the 'opt out' scheme is not working at all.

Since this so called opt out is their self regulation, then surely it makes more sense to externally regulate them? I don't want to have to keep dealing with junk mail, it's only royal mail that does it, I don't get anything  from anyone else. I feel tempted to seal up my letterbox but I do need some important mail. It doesn't seem right that I should have to submit to receiving unwanted garbage and having to spend my energy dealing with it, just to get my important medical correspondence.
  • Save all the junk up each week and put it in your local post box  :D

This.  Almost all of the rubbish shoved through our letterbox is delivered by 'flyer runners'.  Just goes straight into our blue (paper recycling) bin.

No they are always wrapped around or among my letters.
Their 'opt out' is basically a load of bullcrap

All that will do is annoy the person emptying the post box, they won't do anything except swear and maybe bin genuine letters in error.

The person collecting mail from the post box isn't the same person who is pushing it into letterboxes. It would be like trying to ask a supermarket cashier to change the pricing structure.
