Now be fair, there's a lot of the genius mind we don't get to see (because it might move the markets). We'll only really be able to judge properly once the book comes out.1

"Handle" seems to be a word that Type_45 has recently discovered and has been, in my opinion, over using ever since. A bit like the discovery of what "short" meant a few months ago.

Another strong day for my portfolio. Having finished +8.2% in the month of September, just 3 days into October I'm 2.4% up. These figures include new money added to my biggest asset allocation: cash.
My other allocations of silver stock (+4.39% today) and gold miners (+1.30% today) combined to enable my portfolio to romp over the line.0 -

The +2.5% growth of my portfolio this month excludes cash which I will be spending for my bills/living for the month of October.
Since when does a cash allocation only have to be money accrued up to a certain date in the past? How old does the cash have to be?0 -

Since when does a cash allocation only have to be money accrued up to a certain date in the past? How old does the cash have to be?New contributions should have zero effect at the point you receive them. Any growth thereafter would count. There are two ways to do this, you can either unitise your portfolio or calculate the internal rate of return, for example by using your list of cashflows and the XIRR spreadsheet function. Either of these approaches would separate out investment returns from the total increase in your balance after adding money. This snippet of the Monevator article says it all:1
