  • Bill from today I’ve rung the 3 times and the final person I spoke to said the balance was £0 then this bill turned up.

The final meter readings shown on the bill, 15,623 for gas and 36,667 for electricity, are they the actual readings that you gave to BG?

  • Yes they are the readings I took on the 8th July and gave them on the 11th obviously we have used more since then. The new bill was generated on Friday 15th and it’s taken a couple of days for it to arrive.

Looks like they have been previously over estimating your use by quite a large amount and they have now recalculated and you're in credit, all great news.

Try and give regular monthly readings in future and both you and BG will know how things stand.

  • Going to get a smart meter fitted. Is this bill proof that we are in credit now?

That bill looks like everything is in order and you are in credit. You can stop worrying  :D

Smart meters would stop this happening again in future as BG will always have an actual reading.

  • Thank you it’s just been really confusing have 2 bills which have said we are over a £1000 in debt to suddenly been in credit. I’ll book the smart meter fitting and wait and see what the next bill is.

Not that that would necessarily ensure that they would get the billing right!!  ....having tonight now been on the 4th chat in the last 7 days to get them to use the correct meter readings as supplied  (and that were clearly showing on the meter reading history supplied monthly) due to them inexplicably cancelling monthly bills that were previously correct for no apparent reason and replacing them with a composite bill over the whole period from SOLR but using incorrect readings at the key change dates (i.e. Take on date, 31 Mar and Date of change to fixed tariff)

Then compounding the problem by a succession of replacement bills after each chat session correcting one error, only to then create a new one, despite having been clearly told the correct readings to use and them actually confirming them back in the chat...  You would like to say you couldn't make it up but experience tells different..

I'm convinced there must be an energy industry customer service / billing team training course that that all the energy companies send their staff on entitled "101 ways to be totally incompetent"

Hmmm.......think I would still take manual readings as a backup ! Too many posts/stories of BG using estimates even for customers with "smart" meters !!
