Financial support to children

Youngest had £10 a week from me and £10 a week from his father, in the summer holidays and other school holidays where he had made it home, he worked in his seasonal job which then saw him through the uni year. He paid his own phone bill, transport costs, rent and food. He finished with a healthy balance in his bank account after his post grad year but then he lived a very simple life, he didn't go out to the pub, restaurants or on holiday or take part in flat parties and spent £10 a week on food, doing batch cooking. His rent was quite high as he had to go into a studio for his final year due to his CEV status and Covid, which took up pretty much all of his loan.
Middle son had £10 a week from me and £10 a week from his father, he spent his summer holidays being my carer. I paid part of his mobile bill but he had to budget and pay for his own food and rent out of his loan.
Eldest son, he got less per week from each of us (can't remember, it was a time ago now), worked in his seasonal job every time he came home, got a job at Tesco in his final year and reduced accommodation costs by becoming an SR in his halls of residence in 2nd and 3rd year (he was there four years) which involved looking after the younger years. He paid his own mobile bill, transport costs etc.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
A lot of this is very dependant on the loan the students get. Mine is getting £4300 for the next academic year. The only halls there are the price is £6400! Without us helping she couldn't go.0
