  • Through a 3rd party platform, I reckon they knew they couldn't fulfil when I booked.
Oh and to tell me it'll take 3 days to move to 14 all of a sudden I feel they weren't being upfront.

Get another £10 each off everyone else.
I didn't even get round to that, that isn't the issue, it's just they way they are handling this for me
I get that it's not the issue and you want to make a fuss, but in the interest of getting something else booked without delay this will allow you to do that, and then when the refund comes in you can put that towards the meal, and the individuals in your group won't have quite as much to pay on the night.

I really don't think it would be OK to ask for a further 10 from people I wouldn't be happy!

You obviously know the people concerned but personally I wouldn't have any issue with asking for another tenner in the circumstances, when you're trying to rearrange a booking elsewhere on their behalf - they'll presumably be paying more than £20 a head overall anyway?

That's not to say that the original restaurant is being reasonable but sometimes you just have to be pragmatic....

It’s £10 they’ll get back on the night. Can’t see a problem in asking for it now. It’s unlikely that all 15 are so strapped for cash that they don’t have it to give.
You may be miffed by the original restaurant, but if it’s an online platform the booking acceptance could have been automatic by the third party site based on the usual number of tables. I booked a restaurant online a couple of months ago to get a call the next day that they’d closed. Systems don’t always work in real time.
You’ve said variously that a) you need the money to rebook and b) the money isn’t the issue. Which is it?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Friendly lot aren't you?
My issue is the way the restaurant are dealing and also minimising that it would take this long, they had misled me into thinking it'd be 3 days now it's actually 14 they weren't upfront and the fact they are taking so long, I feel sure I have rights with this one.
It's not about asking for more money from friends which it appears to have been turn into....

Yes, of course you have rights, but there are very few things where there are instant legal remedies. Ultimately you could go to court, but that's likely to take months.

The other way to look at asking them for another tenner ahead of the meal is that you can then use the £150 that you're waiting to be refunded & take that straight off the bill on the night so everyone will have already paid £20 each ahead of time.

Also they may have to refund the platform who then in turn have to refund you, so whilst they said it would take 3 days they may have meant it will take them 3 days to refund the platform....
