You can't get a cheaper fixed deal than the current price cap. All you can do is get a fixed deal that beats the predicted price caps for October 2022 and Jan 2023
Current predictions MSE backed Cornwall Insights figures.
Prediction Oct 2022 gas 14p kwh elec 44p kWh
Prediction Jan 2023 gas 15p kWh elec 45p kWh
Have a read here there is a deal mentioned with EDF with £150 cashback1 -

You could try contacting EDF if you are a long time customer asking them what they can offer you0 -

If you have an online account with EDF, log in and click 'change tariff' to see what offers they might have for you as an existing customer. Anything will be a lot more than the tariff you are on at present, but of-course that will increase sharply in October.0

The closest to what you describe that has been happening is that some companies were offering fixed tariffs to existing customers. Describing them as 'cheap' would be a stretch but some were likely better than the price cap rise coming in October.
The options open to you as others have mentioned above.2 -

Read the following article

There is a fixed tariff from EDF that should eb available to you, but it is still 55% on top what you are paying now.
Also you will start paying the higher cost immediately and not only in October.
There have been new higher predictions for the new cap every few weeks, and each time advisable tariffs have been withdrawn to be replaced with more expensive ones.1 -
