We've been feeding hedgehogs since we moved to this house 3 years ago. The numbers go up and down each year but we've yet to see hoglets.

We use an upside down clear under-bed type storage box with a small entrance cut out and put cat kibble under it every evening. Keeps the neighbourhood kitties off it.

After asking our neighbour's for permission, we've cut CD case sized holes in the fences each side of our garden so the hoggies can get in and out and find more places to wander. I'm a fan of the Hedgehog Street site too and I ordered "Hedgehog Highway" signs from there to put above the holes.

  • I have a hedgehog living in my garden.  As it sleeps under some shrubs that are in full sun during the day, I put out a parasol to create shadow and keep it cool over the last few days.  It has a meal of dog food about 9pm every night.  I also built the two Hog houses in the picture out of old pallets.  The Hogs have used them in previous years.

How lovely!  Thank you for posting
I have seen hogs near us from time to time and would love to make a little "safe space" for them, but we have a lot of roaming cats in the gardens and I am always worried about trying to attract the hogs, only for them to be murdered by the local cats!
Are cats a threat to them does anyone know?  Apart from stealing their food, I mean, could they actually hurt them?

Cats don't attack hedgehogs, neither do foxes (the prickly spines are a deterrent).

We used to have a hedgehog which I fed but the local catsof which there are many used to eat it. So sad we dont see many these days when we are out with the dogs at night.
