We had some in the garden a couple of years back but don't seem to have any now.  Foxes instead!  Not that I think I fox would get far trying to take even a hoglet.

I couldn’t help myself, gave their foreheads a little rub today. Did not flinch at all. (Them not me). A time will come when they will leave the nest forever, but where will they go? People around here generally don’t have gardens (Synthetic  lawns).

I wish I had a hog, they are great at decimating the slug population.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

We had Mr Brillo for the first time last year, who then brought Mrs Brillo, but I've not seen them this year.... 😔

Really, that's appalling. Why have a garden at all? This evening I sat on the grass in the shade of my apple trees: a synthetic lawn would have been 5 degrees warmer, let alone no benefit to wildlife.

I’m sure wildlife is the last thing they would considered more like keeping the children entertain like football nets, trampoline, paddling pool - ( as I wrote this just release why would these things trouble a lawn)

So the truth is I guess they don’t want to cut the grass every couple of weeks.. (sorry being judgmental here and generally frowned upon)

No, I was not aware so thanks for the heads up.

  • I have hedgehogs visit my garden and over the past 2 years I've had to take 3 of them to a rescue near me as they were out in the day, which could be a sign that they're not well.  They were suffering from lungworms caused by eating slugs, which they will only do if they can't find any other food. All three have been nursed back to health and returned to my garden. I always make sure that they have enough water and do feed them every night. I feel very privileged to have them in my garden.

The mother hedgehog trundle in my garden early one morning and spent the next 7 hours or so in daylight making her nest, totally ignoring me as I investigated her. Never once rolling up in a ball.

As for the 4 youngsters 3 of them seem to want to explore in daylight hours around the nest, but not going to far.

Very unusual I suppose, I’m no expert but they all seem very happy and comfortable in their surroundings. They let me rub their foreheads without fuss.
