🎪 Date at the Fete 🎪
Having spent most of the Bank Holiday weekend in the garden, we decided to give ourselves a day off yesterday and go to a local village fete. We had lunch in the little cafe there and a short mooch around (it is only a small village). Bought two bat boxes. There is a man who makes bird houses and feeders who always has a stall at this venue. All the profits go towards maintaining a local historic site and we've bought a bird house and a feeder from him at previous events. Apparently, different sized bats need different sized houses so we bought one of each size he had. Then we popped in to a local antiques emporium for a browse and picked up a few small items. All costs to be met from the fun money. Mr F is away for most of September and October so I'm not sure how much 'fun' we'll be having for a while. And with costs increasing as they are, there may not be any budget for fun going forward. Which isn't to say that fun can't be had - it will just have to cost nowt 😆
We had Mexican Salmon Salad for supper with lettuce from the veg patch. We dug up some potatoes just to see what they were like this year and they had scab 😲 We'll still be able to eat them but they don't look very pretty. Not surprising really given the heatwaves but, as we've not had a problem before, I'm wondering about the quality of the seed potatoes we bought. The plums are dong well though. I've picked and frozen most of them and dropped a bag off for each of our neighbours. Will probably pick and freeze the last today.
In terms of winter prep, I've ordered us a hot water bottle each and a replacement electric blanket for Mr F who has broken his 🙄 Other money related tasks were SORNing the new car and subscribing to R1ng Doorbell as our free trial has run out.
I've lots on my to do list today but no meetings or appointments so that takes the pressure off.
Happy Tuesday all

List
I am steadily working through my to do list:- ordered some food for FDawg as he's getting low
- contacted the Electrician about some work we need doing to be winter ready. He's going to pop by next week
- contacted a local log company about getting a couple of dumpy bags of hardwood logs. They're going to call me about a delivery date
- spoke to a local company about getting an oil tank monitor fitted. I've never trusted the guage on our oil tank and an alarm seems sensible all the time costs are rising
- contacted a local Chimney Sweep to come and check and sweep our log burner. He's come back to me with a date so I just need to confirm that with him
- changed my tax details with HMRC. They have started taxing my itty bitty pension and I've no idea why
- booked a boiler service for October
- emailed Solar Guy 1 about coming to do a site visit
- ordered some heating oil - ouch, ouch, ouch
- meal planned and did the on-line grocery shop for this week.
We had a quick cheese and tomato roll for lunch yesterday as Mr F had an appointment to get to. Supper was Sweet Potato & Peanut Curry with wholegrain rice. I used spinach from the veg patch and there was enough leftover for lunch today too.
40 minutes of dance exercise completed this morning 😇 I asked Mr F whether he could hear me prancing about upstairs and he said "Yes. It's like a herd of baby elephants are having a party up there." 😮 Sometimes I think he forgets I prepare all his meals 😈
Happy Hump Day all!

There is a fabulous Polish recipe with the Twarog cheese. Chop tomatoes, cucumbers, red pepper and a bit of red onion into small pieces. Then mix in the twarog as it will melt. Add fresh dill, salt and pepper and serve as a salad or spread on bruschetta etc - truly fabulous and refresheningDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

@Fortune_Smiles the oil price has not quite reached what we paid which was a smidge over £1.00/l for the last 500 litres. It has gone up 10ppl this week though.
Oh, and I have just used my John Lewis vouchers to order a new hot water bottle, having read your post. To get free delivery, I also added a throw and a bit of economy bedding as we have bought a different duvet for the camper and it is a two part system. I never imagine us needing 14 tog, but 4.5 vs 9 is something I will get wrong, and the prospect of arsing about between two duvets in one cover at night holds little appeal so each will have its own bag now. I paid £1.50 for that lotSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

That sounds fabulous La Plan (not sure how to shorthand your user name so trying this one out - do you like it?). I'll definitely give this recipe a go.
