Probate application chase

Taking the instalment route will allow probate to be granted. There other options too, including IHT loans or a grant of credit issued by the HMRC.GaryBC said:
House has value, house is mortgaged, bank won't even enter discussion until probate is granted....shiraz99 said:

And if it's all tied up in assets that can't be traded without probate?shiraz99 said:
You can ask the deceased's bank (if there are sufficient funds available) to make a direct payment.GaryBC said:Ok peeps, here's something to keep us occupied while I'm waiting to get hold of HMCTS...
As part of their 'on hold' recording they say they can't issue probate until inheritance tax is paid. How on earth does one pay inheritance tax without access to the estate if the estate can't be accessed until probate is granted! Discuss...
(Doesn't apply in my case as there's no inheritance tax to pay, but I thought it'd be fun to chuck it in here and watch the feeding frenzy!)

But I imagine that, if you've got a Carribean island and a yacht or two you've also got an accountant who will handle it all!
Sorry, I'm just chucking around a little mischief while waiting for nobby to answer the phone 😁0 -
This isn't the place for "chucking around a little mischief". Most people who post on here are recently bereaved, and struggling with the post death admin, or are those trying to help them.GaryBC said:But I imagine that, if you've got a Carribean island and a yacht or two you've also got an accountant who will handle it all!

Yep, that's me. Recently bereaved and struggling with post death admin.
Thank you for your concern, but there is always room for a smile or too.0 -
As my grandmother used to say, there’s a time and a place for everything. When someone asks for advice and then gets sarcastic and stroppy with people giving that advice, it’s perhaps time to quit.GaryBC said:Yep, that's me. Recently bereaved and struggling with post death admin.

As far as your query about paying IHT in order to obtain probate, there’s plenty of advice online about what to do.1 -
Read my original question.msb1234 said:

Ok. It's clearly time to take stock of the state of this thread...My original question "is there any other way to contact HMCTS?" has been answered. It's "no", there isn't.As for my thought experiment regarding the circularity in the process, that seems to have developed a life of its own. Not bad for a 'throwaway' observation! If people want to carry on batting the latter around feel free; knock yourselves out peeps. For those who contributed positively to the former; thanks, it was very helpful. To those lacking fortitude and a sense of humour.... well, there's really nothing to say!0

this has got lively...for info I got the email saying 'grant approved' today, 15 weeks after they received the application. Actual grants are in the post, once they turn up (allegedly within 10 days) I can get on.I got the case 'escalated' and today is 2 working days from the deadline for that.hope no-one else gets 'stopped' due to a scanning foulup at Harlow, but if you do, I suggest asking for escalation.0

Hmmm... I'd be interested to hear how one gets a case escalated. If mine doesn't unstick soon I'd like to do that!bunnygo said:this has got lively...for info I got the email saying 'grant approved' today, 15 weeks after they received the application. I’m at 17 weeks since they acknowledged receipt of my application.
They raised a query after 8 weeks, which I responded to.
I’ve heard nothing since and all queries have been met with a vague answer (after waiting to get through on the telephone for 40 minutes)
or no answer at all to my three emails.
I’m at my wits end and haven’t really got the energy to keep chasing.
I know there’s nothing to be done and I’m just venting really, but it’s all making a miserable time even harder!0
