I'm going to put a handmade invitation to visit us for a weekend

What a wonderful idea! That is a truly excellent gift! I would be delighted if someone gave me that as a present...:D ...and I would definitely visit!

Do they have a garden? Maybe a small potted heather?
If it was easy, everyone would do it!

Oh lol, I do hope these lovely (English) people are going to enjoy all things Scottish after all this. It would be a shame if all they wanted was a toaster.

Some speciality tea and/or coffee from somewhere like Braithwaite's in Dundee

(Just adding as I think of them)

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice
  • It's my cousin who's getting married aliasojo and I spent over an hour talking to her and my aunt trying to work out what they wanted. Eventually I said I might as well bring something Scottish for her when we came down and she got really excited and started gushing about how she'd love to get something like that. Our family originally came from the highlands down to Norfolk in the 1800s so she has the same draw to Scotland that I had.
Thanks for all the great ideas, I will start getting bits and pieces over the next few weeks, I'd like to get it done ASAP then it's out of the way.

btw mentioned it to my mother (she lives in Lincolnshire) and got landed with an order for butteries, smokies and if we go via stirling she wants some rolls as well. Any other orders? ;)

Take me, take me!!! I love a good get together, lol. :D

What about adding a Scottish tea towel to the hamper? I have an English friend who loves the ones with Scottish facts written on them, or you also get ones with Scottish words and their meanings. Useful and informative all in one go, lol.....and still fairly cheap.

What about a quaich ............. steeped in tradition and undeniably scottish, something to be kept and remebered. I received one as a wedding present from my elderly very Ayrshire aunt and i absolutely love it . Traditionally it was given as a wedding gift or "loving cup".
