Is Laundry Sanitiser Seasonal?

I thought you were supposed to use something like the sanitizer as the synthetic clothing people wear for running and sports tend to hold on to the bacteria more easily. Not that I do any running or strenuous exercise nowadays. I;ve been unable to find napisan (I like it for brightening my white towels) for quite a while. I used to buy it in wilko but they never have it anymore locally.0

I use half the amount of detergent they recommend, don't use any sanitizer and the clothes are fine. It's only when someone here puts things in the wrong drawers of the washing machine that we run into problems. and I rarely use any cycle above 30. I'd use a 20 cycle if the machine had one.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. One day when the weather is a bit cooler I will give it a try.

OP. Just to tidy things up . . .The sanitiser goes in the softener compartment so it’s added to the last RINSE cycle which is usually cold water. In the winter this unheated water is usually below Dettol's stipulated minimum of 15°CBacteria such as e.coli on underpants are pretty hard to detect. A WASH cycle temperature of 60°C is needed to kill them. They can spread from your underpants to your babies vests.Personally, I have been washing my underpants in a separate wash at 60°C. (Lots of underpants!) but am wondering if I could save money on wear-and-tear and water-heating by using the sanitiser. But is it only effective in the summer?(All my comments are IMHO - I’m no expert!)1

Seriously, what is on your underpants that after they have been washed in detergent and a temp of 60c, that they then require a final rinse of sanitiser?I dread to think.pat100 said:OP.
