No I know the camper van isn’t something new, just that many we saw seemed to be vw,s, not necessarily converted to a camper, they seemed to have side windows, some small windows, some full length, many of the other vans we saw, fords, ect, also had side windows, I just wondered if people are buying vans with windows so they can get around the speed limits for vans, or is the demise of the mpv resurfacing in another form.?

The Jone's have one which they use to go to the beach with and therefore so must I. Got to keep up with the trends couldn't bear being 'seen' as failing to keep up.
It could just be that it's a really suitable vehicle for the job. I don't think there's really anything else that comes set up that size.

There is a huge fashion premium on the VW campers, and anything resembling a camper van at the moment too.

If we could afford it, we'd have one, and we're tragically uncool.

Me and the mrs have often discussed buying a camper van, we’d have to have one with a shower and toilet, but paying 30k+, is a lot of hotel rooms to stay in

A van converted to a camper only gets car speed limits on NSL roads when DVLA accepts it.  Sticking in some bed and windows isn't good enough, you also have to get some patterning done and wait for DVLA to change the vehicle type on the V5.  Until then, it is still a panel van with the speed limits of a panel van

There is definitely that, we more or less made the same call and stick with hotels. However you can't take your hotel room to the beach or middle of nowhere or fill it with muddy bikes, so I can see the merits for people who'd use them enough.

Yes I agree, but for us our idea of a holiday wouldn’t involve beaches or muddy bikes, we’re just not into that kind of holiday, it’s each to their own of course, we probably are buying into the idyllic camper van life..

£50K is obscene for a vehicle that's at least 7 years old.

    Unless you mean a T6.1/T7.

Bet he paid for it up front all at once too. No finance, no HPI, none of the malarkey that the hoi polloi endure. Got to do these things in style!

I would rather buy a beautifully restored air-cooled one, for less money than that.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
