Why on earth would any sane supplier use tenths of a unit in billing .? As I said in 20 years meter reading the only meter to use decimal points I have seen is the hopelessly unsuitable Secure Liberty s and solar panel meters although they have 6 digits .QrizB said:
I disagree; my experience is that estimated readings (like the one the OP has received) often include decimal points.SAC2334 said:
They don t use the little Ampy meter the OP has recieved a reading for showing decimal points in anything other than a solar panel meter .Only other meter to use decimal points for domestic are the absurdly un customer friendly Secure Liberty smart meters and they were made for small businesses in India but used as smart meters in the UKAlnat1 said:Quick google says they can be used for solar but are more often used in rented properties such as a house turned into flats where the main supply has been split between several users.
God knows why the OP s supplier has been sent that reading as it means absolutely nothing to him unless he has solar panels. These meters can be found hiding away deep in the loft where no one go s .0 -
I can't vouch for their sanity, but I have bills here from First Utility (now Shell?) & Outfox The Market with estimated readings, and they've got decimal places. (There may be others, I haven't checked every single bill.)SAC2334 said:

Obviously they re using the loony Secure Liberty meter readings and chose to send customers the whole 8 digits . First Utility ( now Shell ) were one of the first to use these cheap bargain basement made in India (£40 each when they first came out ) Smart Meters .They have been confusing customers now for a decade .Meter readers hate these and so do most customers .QrizB said:

No, this was a 5-digit dumb meter. I've got photos of it somewhere (it was reading just over 50000 when removed last year, when my smart meter was fitted).N. Hampshire, he/him. OK , I work up in Yorkshire , retired now so I have nt seen every meter in the UK and will accept there may be a 5 digit (digital ) meter somewhere with a decimal point but 5 digits are what normally are used with the last digit being the single kwh dial . analogue meters always show a tenth of a kwh .QrizB said:SAC2334 said:

Could it be that OP has recieved an analogue meter reading which is missing its leading zero and including the tenths.. I know Eon used to omit leading zero s for some reason and just send a 4 digit electric and metric gas reading when billing..Not a good practice IMO1 -
Look at the security tag, its just string.
Still a big jump in usage from the Estimate.

This is a picture of the electricity meter in my house (taken a year ago today but it's still here).
The reading has a decimal point and six digits.
Nominally it is made by Ampy Metering (it does not say Landis & Gyr).
The date of installation is 29/7/8 as recorded on the label.
The bottom plate does not have a seal.
The reading alternates with rEd because I have solar panels.
None of my electricity suppliers, present or past, have shown any inclination to replace it.

I ve seen thousands of those but they are always just solar panel Ampy meters. Personally I ve never seen that on a normal domestic electric meter .Reed_Richards said:This is a picture of the electricity meter in my house (taken a year ago today but it's still here).

No worries about the lack of a security seal on the lower cover screw. Meter fitters can t be bothered to fit them nowadays
.Seems to be the trend now to make meter bypassing even more easy when many new build properties omit them.
On my data collector I was obliged to note the missing security seals .They never replaced them .
Ebay sell these security tags and seals anyway so not difficult to source1 -
There is no serial number on the meter for any reference.so could be any thing.
If solar gen meter it would have seral number also.0
