Thanks - that seems to be a well-balanced article and has most cost areas considered.

The biggest omission seemed to be around cost of finance / higher capital.  Possibly because it is written by a lease company with the assumption that EV or ICE would be leased so monthly is all that matters.

The article would also serve as a guide for anyone looking to make their own cost assessment.

Used Tesla prices drop nearly 20% as flippers can’t find buyers

I am wondering if this was purely an American phenomenon 

Nearly a third of used Teslas for sale in August were 2022 models up for resale, a sign that original buyers were aiming to flip, analysts said. That compares with about 5% of other brands on the used market, according to research firm Edmunds.

Edit: thinking about this, the IRA which will effectively reduce new Tesla prices by $7,500 is bound to have an impact on prices for used Teslas. I can see a few speculators getting their fingers burned in the U.S.

Tesla stopped reporting its Autopilot safety numbers online. Why?

The Tesla Autopilot crash numbers are far higher than those of similar driver-assistance systems from General Motors and Ford. Tesla has reported 516 crashes from July 2021 through November 2022, while Ford reported seven and GM two.

To be sure, Tesla has far more vehicles equipped with driver-assist systems than the competition — an estimated 1 million, Ogan said, about 10 times as many as Ford. All else equal, that would imply Tesla ought to have a NHTSA-reported crash total of 70 since last summer to be comparable with Ford’s rate. Instead, Tesla reported 516 crashes.

Amazing that Tesla has 10% of the huge Chinese EV market and is generally maintaining its share in the fast growing market.
